We have eaten here once for breakfast and once more recently for lunch, and both times it was barely alright for a quick, no-frills meal. We found the breakfasts to be a good value, and the daily specials to be a good value. The salad I had was not a good value.
I can't help but review the chicken caesar salad, as it was surprisingly disappointing, for a cost of $12.50. The menu states "romaine lettuce, homemade croutons and dressing, with marinated chicken breast, served with garlic toast". The plate of romaine lettuce was really small, lettuce was wilted, the chicken very overcooked and dried out, the garlic toast neither toasty nor garlicky. There were no croutons. If it were a side salad, I would not complain, but this was an entree, with an entree price.
My beverage glass was dirty (some old food stuck on the inside from the dishwasher, perhaps) and we had to ask for utensils after we got our food. The servers were friendly. The atmosphere is fun, with the various license plates on display.
I will probably pass on Plates from now on, which is sad because it seems like it has the potential to be a good independant family restaurant.
