“Excellent, as always!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2013

This was our 2nd stay at the Crown Isle. We were in a lovely 1 bedroom King suite with a great view of the 1st fairway. Suite was very clean and beautifully appointed...full kitchen, fabulous bathroom with multi-head shower and double sinks, jacuzzi tub in bedroom. There is a double sided fireplace but didn't use it as it was too warm. Golf course is top notch and clubhouse is lovely...had especially great service from our server Shanna!

Excelent accomodation with glorious views across the golf course and towards the glacier. The room was luxurious and well-stocked. Everything we needed was right there and the staff were professional, helpful and friendly. We will definitley go back.

Room Tip: Corner suite overlooking the greens was quiet and large.

Crown Royal is advertised as a luxury resort and the accommodation simply isn't - it is expensive to stay here but the value is not there as far as our accommodation was concerned. We chose a loft room (and were assigned Glasgow building unit 708). The kitchen in this unit was lacking in basic utensils and it would have been very difficult to cook a meal - we were struggling to find any serving dishes for appies. This unit was very dark with little natural sunlight. There were chipped paint and water damaged walls in the main floor bath. There should also be two armchairs for four guests in addition to the couch - not just one. The resort is also marketed as non-smoking but there are ashtrays and plastic chairs outside each unit for people to smoke outside your unit. That is not non-smoking. The beds were comfortable. The main issues for me are these are adequate accommodations, not luxury and the price does not reflect that; and non-smoking means no smoking anywhere near your room. The golf and restaurants are great, our accommodations were "meh". Too bad.

Thank you for your comments. Here at Crown Isle, we do appreciate hearing from our guests, especially if their Crown Isle experience did not meet their expectations. I’m sorry you did not feel you received value for your accommodations. The loft unit you stayed in featured a full kitchen with stove / oven, full fridge, dishwasher, microwave, double sinks, breakfast counter with chairs, toaster and coffee maker with complimentary coffee / tea; a living room with queen sofa bed, arm chair, ottoman, fireplace, air conditioner, TV, DVD and free internet; separate bedroom with king bed and TV; full bathroom with in floor heating; upper level loft with 2 queen beds, TV & full bathroom; with 4 guests the rate was only $64.75/person.
My apologies for not having the basic utensils you felt you needed to prepare your meals. I have taken the liberty to list the inventory of utensils found in your unit after your check out:
- 6 each - dinner plates, lunch plates & bowls
- 6 each- forks, knives, teaspoons, tablespoons
- 6 each - water goblets, beer glasses, wine glasses
- 6 each - coffee cups
- set of 3 mixing bowls, 1 strainer and 1 measuring cup
- 1 large cooking pot & 2 small cooking pots
- 2 fry pans
- 1 cutting board with 1 large bread knife
- 1 paring knife
-1 wine opener / bottle opener
- 2 ladels
- 3 large cooking spoons
-1 rolling pin
-1 potato masher
-1 potato peeler
- 2 spatulas
If guests require a basic utensil not listed, upon request, our staff will gladly try to provide the desired item from our supply in the restaurant kitchen.
Part of the outdoor ambiance of our accommodations, is being located among tall fir trees in a natural setting. Unfortunately, with the tall trees, sunlight is somewhat blocked at various times during the day, and direct sunlight into the various windows of the units is limited. This shade element also contributes to having a level of coolness around the units when the hot summer sun is at its’ highest.
We do inspect our units regularly to identify any minor incidents previous guests may have caused to walls and carpets, and schedule for ongoing maintenance. We will definitely look into the paint chips and water damage in the bathroom.
This is the first comment we have ever received about requiring another arm chair in the living room and will be taken into consideration.
Our “units” are marketed as non smoking, however, smoking is allowed outside the units on the decks and patios of the individual units. Our clubhouse is non smoking.
I do appreciate hearing you thought the restaurant and golf was great.
Again, thank you for your comments.

In my opinion Crown Isle is the best hotel to stay at if you are in the Courtenay/Comox area. Reasonably priced, very nice rooms that provide you with all the amenities needed and then some. It's been very consistent the number of times we have stayed there.

I stay at Crown Isle quite often and always find it to be great. The rooms are spacious and have more amenities then you would find in a standard hotel (ie: kitchenette, big tub, etc). They also have a great gym that is fully stocked with equipment that is well maintained (a rarity in seems in many hotel gyms!)

My only advice would be to hold your ground when you are trying to get a hold of them. I often find it quite difficult to make a reservation over the phone as I am patched through to the front desk and they rarely answer. I've left messages on several occasions that were never returned.

Despite this hiccup prior to arrival, I always find the staff friendly, and accommodating. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the location to other travelers in the area.

Room Tip: The farther away from the clubhouse you are, the less light will come in through your windows. Upper...

The Villas are beautiful, I recommend the One Bedroom Suites with Jacuzzi. We couldn't have asked for better accomodations. The views and smells amongst the big trees is very appealing. Just a great laid back vibe all around the resort.

Room Tip: Recommend the One bedroom suite with Jacuzzi. Folkestone & Edinburgh are both excellent building...

Stayed at this resort on a Sunday/Monday night package in a one bedroom with two fireplaces and a Jacuzzi tub in the bedroom. Very romantic! Check in was quick and efficient. Our unit had a kitchen with stove top and micro wave convection oven, dishwasher, fridge etc. Very clean and modern with all the amenities to fix meals (not that we did). A corkscrew was well used. Have been in several resorts where they don't put a corkscrew in the room! I saw a comment about the lack of the Golf Channel on the television in a Golf Resort. It's there. You must go to the Security Cam channel and the Golf Channel will pop up. While we had two televisions in our unit, neither was HD. This wasn't a big issue to us but it may be to some. I suspect the Golf Channel in this area is only supported via the HD channels. The Resort's way around it was to use the HD enabled security channel to acquire the Golf Channel (just a guess on my part).

With beautiful weather, we spent lots of time on our patio and watched the world go by. We used the driving range (ball dispenser) but did not play this course. The golf shop staff were very helpful as were all the staff at this resort.

The main restaurant was closed on the two evenings we stayed here and we knew this as the hours are posted on the resort web site. We used the pub for breakfast both mornings. Good food and attentive service with views of the golf course.

Costco is within walking distance of this resort and if we were in a large group we would have made use of it for food etc. There is a newer mall also within walking distance with groceries (Thriftys..a local chain) and a liquor store. Several fast food outlets are in the in the same area.
