We really needed a relaxing get-away and the Kingfisher certainly provided it. My husband is very hard to please - love him, but bit of a downer sometimes - but he thoroughly enjoyed the stay & left all worries behind, which is what I was shooting for.

Memorable Bests:
- Friendly front staff
- Relaxed atmosphere
- Spa's hydropath (take your hubby...it's nice to do together)
- The Walk (pick up a map at the lobby......"just to let you know there was a bear sighted there on Aug 31st and he was quite aggressive". So off we went, scared ----less we'd run into it, but excited we might. Go figure. Alas, tho', no bear. Lovely walk - takes about an hour.)
- Excellent food. The Baby Cortez Island oysters were delicious and our steaks were perfectly done. And the breakfasts.... Mmmmmm. Get the package that includes them.
- The fresh air wafting off the ocean.
- The view. No mind looking over the flat roof of the lower suites. The driftwood strategically placed on it is kind of funky.
- Gardens are lovely.
- Driftwood art scattered about.
- Wireless internet (for those like me who can't fully let go)
- The heated bathroom floor.
- Quiet and peaceful.

Memorable Downers:
- The rooms are non-smoking, but all have ashtrays on the decks. We often had to shut the sliding glass doors facing the beach because someone would come out on a deck close by and light up. It was extremely annoying.
- It's pricey. The 2-day Hydropath package, which included a dinner and 2 breakfasts, plus an extra day was near $1000.

We stayed a day longer than planned & we so relaxed we didn't care about the price, so that about sums up how much we enjoyed it.

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon and had a wonderful stay. We were a little apprehensive when we first arrived as from the outside it din't look like much but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff on the check in were very efficient and friendly. When we walked out into the gardens to get to our room we were greeted by the wonderful sea view and a well kept garden area with beautiful flowers and lawn.
The room was great with a perfect view of the sea. It had a sea side theme - starfish pictures, shells on the wall etc which made it seem dated but was large, clean and very comfortable.

We had dinner in the restaurant on our second night. We had booked a table the day before but we had to wait about 20 mins until the first
sitting was cleared out. It was a bit annoying but we just sat outside on the little swing seat and enjoyed the view. The food was lovely. I recommend the steamer pot. You get a huge bamboo pot of mixed seafood all cooked together. It was divine.

All in all we had a great stay in Kingfisher and can't really fault it.

We spent two nights at the Kingfisher resort in one of their regular rooms on the ground floor; the cost was $170/night. The room wasn't what I was expecting from a "resort". The room was on the small side and was dreary; it very much resembled a basic motel room that someone had tried to "fluff". As with most hotels on Vancouver Island there is no air conditioning in the rooms; our room did have a small window by the main door (which opened onto the parking area) and a sliding door that opened onto the lawn area. While the sliding door did have a locking mechanism that would allow it to be locked partially open there was no screen; since we were on the ground floor I chose not to sleep with the door open. Thankfully there was a small fan that could be used to keep the room from being too stuffy. The bathroom was small and unremarkable. The view from our room was the lawn/garden area and the pool. When we first saw our room we tried to move to a suite but none were available.

The restaurant was very pleasant and the food was well prepared. We were lucky enough to have a window seat at dinner which offered a good ocean view. The view would have been better had they not built part of the resort on the hillside below the restaurant so that when you're in the restaurant you're actually looking over the roof of the other building to see the ocean; still you do get a good ocean view.

The grounds of the resort were remarkable, lawns and flower gardens that were very impressive.

I did not make use of the pool or the spa.

My mother and I stayed at the Kingfisher over a four day period in early June. It is true that the rooms could use a little updating, but overall, the experience was absolutely fantastic. If you are looking for a peaceful, relaxing get-away, at a reasonable price....this is the place for you. The spa services were outstanding - the hydropath is not to be missed. Make sure you actually speak with someone at the spa, if you have questions regarding the different treatments. When I originally booked over the phone, I was given some minor misinformation by the reservations agent with regards to the different types of massages.
The restaurant on the premises was also outstanding, although service was a little slow both evenings when we had dinner.
Again....very minor issue for both of us.
I would highly recommend this resort for a spa getaway for girlfriends or mother's/daughters, and most definitely for a romantic getaway!
One final note - the resort was imepaccably clean and the spa and grounds maintained immaculately!

We stayed at the Kingfisher resort recently and had an enjoyable experience. The views are spectacular to say the least and we found it very peaceful and relaxing. We stayed in an ocean view room as we were only staying for one night and didn't want to spend too much money. It was still $170.00 but well worth it when you consider the pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub. We were very impressed with the dinner staff and the food itself was superb. In particular, one server, Stuart was really knowledgeable, friendly and very professional. I wish we could say the same about the front desk person. She just wasn't very welcoming. Over all, we'd recommend it and we'd go back!

The Kingfisher Resort more resembles an old beach front motel that's had a spa added on to the property to draw in revenue. Nothing wrong with that. It's business.

The front desk staff, spa and restaurant staff were great.

The spa is a separate building located in the centre grassy courtyard between guest room buildings. The heated pool (and hot tub) is outdoor and is looked down upon by the hotel guests, in a strange throwback to the 1960s American motel layout - providing little privacy for those wanting to take in a late evening soak or dip.

We paid $240 for a one night stay in a "suite on the beach" which turned out to be little more than a hotel room -- in a wood construction 2 level building. And we were unfortunately placed on the ground floor with a very noisy party upstairs and a toddler next door. The lack of soundproofing in our suite made for little sleep between late night loud slamming around upstairs (raucous enough to shake the walls at one point) and early morning toddler screeches and cries. It was an unfortunate experience for our R&R mini-break.

When we checked out I reported to the front desk staff the sound carry over problem. But the response was unsatisfactory: I should have called to report the problems so they could call the other guests to ask them to be more considerate of others. The front desk staffer told me that she would report the problem to the manager. And that was the resolution.

If you're looking for a quiet property, and the Kingfisher looks appealing, be sure to ask for a quiet room and for advice on what to do if you find you're disturbed by the noise created by other guests in this poorly insulated property. Or, at that price, maybe another property might better meet your needs?

I had the pleasure of staying at the Kingfisher a couple weeks ago with my daughter and two of her engineer friends from University. The four of us stayed in the Orca suite beside the ocean and the room was spacious and clean. The beds were fine except I would agree with the last comment on how the linens could be upgraded. It seemed like you only had a thin sheet between you and the mattress. In the age of the heavenly bed experience we all expect high standards in sleep comfort. The gas fireplace in the suite was wonderful especially since the weather outside was lousy. We all did the hydropath ($50 each) and it was a great stress releaser. The free amenities really make the stay worthwhile because of the outdoor pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. The only real complaint I have is the hot tub jets seemed really weak. I have stayed at the Kingfisher twice before and was told by a guest the motor was replaced recently and it hasn't been the same since. This is something that should be easy to correct.

Tip: We ate at the Atlas Cafe in Courtenay on 6th street and the food was great. Also the hydropath is great but book ahead it is very popular.
