“Best Value in Courtenay/Comox area”
Reviewed August 7, 2009

I actually stayed here twice in the last month, once on personal business, and then on the August long weekend with my wife and our pet Labrador Retriever. On both occasions I was offered a great CAA rate, the room was very clean and just perfect for what we needed. In fact, it was the best rate offered to us when I phoned around.

The pool was a wonderful treat at the end of the day. Although we did not have the continental breakfast that was included in the room rate, it looked good and offered a nice selection. Several good restaurants and fast food outlets located very close by including a Tim Hortons, put the Travelodge in a great location. Staff were very pleasant, friendly and attentive to our needs.

If you are travelling with a pet, I would suggest that you ask for a room on the back end of the hotel property, which is ideal for walking your pet.

You can stay here with confidence. We know that we will definitely stay here again.

We stayed here arriving late one night so as to catch the morning Powell River ferry. The room was average size with two double beds, a desk, sink area and bathroom with toilet and tub shower. The room and bathroom were clean. The bed covers and rug seem a bit worn - but about what I expected at this price range. The property is right on the main road, but most of the rooms face to the side; noise was not a problem. They served a continental breakfast which saved us some time and money in the morning. The ferry was about 20 minute drive away.

All in all, very average and fine for a short overnight stay.

We stayed two nights at the special rate. The "non-smoking" room was at the back of the Travelodge and had a kitchenette, queen bed and sofa bed. The room was a nice size, and I liked being at the other end of the pool, away from the noise of the busy street. Athough, as we opened the door to the room it seemed like cigarette smoke was permeating through the walls and furniture. I especially noticed it when I got home and pulled my clothes out of the bag, they smelled like smoke. The breakfast is fine, if you like continental breakfasts but we made our own breakfast the second day. Bath towels were on the thin side but the shower was nice. The room was clean. Upon checking out, we went to get a receipt and found out that we owed 0.02 more due to an oversight on their part. Just beware that you may end up paying more...

Arrived without booking and was offered a suite for three adults.
Rate offered was very good.
Staff were extremely friendly and even rang up to check if everything was OK. I only expect that in a five star hotel!
Considering what and where the Travelodge is, very good impression and enjoyable stay.

Booked through another Travelodge. Rates were about $10.00 less and about 4 times less in amenities. The room assigned was tiny compared to standard motel rooms, probably due to jamming in of microwave, fridge, etc. (Normally a sought after amenity, but not of the expense of floor space in an already crowed and small room). The room has no air and even at this time of the year the room is hot and stuffy. They did provide a fan though. It is not often my spouse will not bath in a hotel bathtub, but congratulations...This was it. . The bathtub is so badly stained and out of date (interesting that the fixtures and flooring were relatively new), that I even hesitated to shower. The ceilings need dusting but the rest of the room was clean. One plus was the high speed internet access.

The location is good for Courtenay access. There are restaurants, Tim Horton’s and a Mall in very close proximity within easy walking distance, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Definitely a Low Budget. alternative, but I would suggest asking for a room that has been renovated and with air (Yes many rooms had air, ours didn’t). Even for an additional 10.00 it would be worth it.

One of the problems with online booking is the "May I look at the room first" As if you do walk away you usually lose one night's rental.

We stayed one night here as part of a Circle Tour up Vancouver Island and down the Sunshine Coast.
What I liked:
- Room rate is really cheap.
- Room was clean, but getting tired.
- Location is great, next door to: Boston Pizza restaurant, Save on Foods supermarket, shopping mall with drug store, department store, and many other shops.
What I did not like at all:
- "Air conditioning" is an electric fan. We could not sleep at all that night because it was so hot and muggy in the room.

What can I say, it was OK and cheap. It was within easy walking distance of the bus depot, the mall, a movie theatre, the city bus and lots of great restaurants. The room was very average, a little small and very warm without air conditioning. If your budget is not too strapped, you might want to spring for a room with air conditioning, otherwise, it did cool off somewhat during the night and really wasn’t all that bad (my opinion, not my husband’s). The continental breakfast was passable, nothing too spectacular but it would hold you until lunch. The outdoor pool was clean, and there was an internet computer in the lobby for a minimal charge (came in handy for our teenager). The staff was friendly and helpful. Book ahead as it looked like it filled up fast. Good family accommodations. I would stay here again.
