Having stayed on many lakes, we were disappointed that this is more "on the outskirts of a busy town" than on a lake. However, our room was clean and contemporary with a kitchenette and a well equipped bathroom - we were very impressed. George is a wonderful host, both charming and helpful.
There is a Crazy Golf onsite, which has innovative holes which were great fun to play on. We were only here 1 night, as a stop on a long roadtrip, but we were very comfortable and it was much quieter than it looks.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room away from the road

On our trip to Banff, we stayed in Cranbrook. George was so nice and friendly and even shoveled a path through the snow to the truck for us the following morning. The beds are so comfortable and the heated bathroom floor is amazing on a cold snowy morning. George was very accomidating and offered to get us tickets if we wanted to attend the hockey game. The free wi-fi was probably the fastest wi-fi we have ever had at a hotel. It is right off the road as you come in town, but there was no road noise in our room. The next time we head to BC or Alberta we will be staying here!

This lodge has been a favorite on trip advisor for several years, and deservedly so. It embodies the best of a local inn. We stayed here twice, heading to and from our final destination, and were very impressed with this motel-style lodge. We were fortunate that others had sung its praises previously or we would have driven right by it.

One of the first things you notice, beyond the striking mural on the side of the building, is the location. The lodge is on the south side of Cranbrook, right next to a 250 acre bird sanctuary. While there were not a lot of birds during our visit (in the middle of winter), just having the view over the expanse of trees and Elizabeth Lake, instead of looking into another business, was a nice change. I imagine in the summer, it would be even better. There is also a miniature golf course on the premises, though it, too, was closed for the season.

The rooms were well-equipped with a miniature kitchen, a full size breakfast table, and duvets over the beds. The kitchenette was a nice surprise, and allowed us to easily make breakfast and reheat leftover dinner. My favorite feature, however, was the heated floors in the bathroom. Tile floors are common in bathrooms, and are always cold. The heated floors warm the tile so that it is not only not cold, but actually warm on your feet. This makes stepping out of the shower much nicer. The heated floors were also a great compliment to the dedicated bathroom heater that allowed the temperature in the bathroom to be set independent of the main sleeping area.

Other amenities included a 42” flat-screen TV, tea and tea kettle (it is Canada, after all), deck chairs outside, and custom soaps made especially for the Elizabeth Lake Lodge by a local soap company.

It is also worth mentioning that we were greeted enthusiastically on check in. On both occasions, we were met by George (one of the owners) who not only showed us a room before we committed to staying, but checked the weather and road conditions for the next leg of our drive, as well as provided multiple restaurant recommendations. George is clearly interested in providing the best accommodations in the area, and even asked us what amenities we have seen elsewhere that we have enjoyed. Clearly, he is not taking his high trip advisor rating for granted and is continuing to look for ways to enhance his guests’ experience.

If possible, I would give this lodge a 4.5. However, there are two, minor reasons I don’t believe this hotel rates a 5. The first is the request that the guests wash their own dishes (and as a small sign notes, they may be charged if they don’t). While I find this to be an unusual request, having never seen this before in anything but a condo, and I am not thrilled with it, I would be willing to go along with it given the other advantages of the lodge. However, I am very concerned about the sanitary aspects of this practice. Specifically, I have very little confidence that guests will do a thorough job cleaning the dishes, and that could lead to germs being passed along to the next visitor. Something as simple as a centralized dish washer that could sanitize the dishes (and not just make them look clean) would resolve this concern. The second issue is that the rooms do not appear to be particularly sound-resistant. It was fairly easy for us to hear other guests both above and near our rooms – more so than in many other hotels. Unfortunately, this problem is not something that is easy to resolve in the existing building. On the plus side, a second building is under construction, and is due to open in May. Hopefully, the insulation in this building will provide additional soundproofing.

After trying numerous other hotels in Cranbrook looking for a place to stay WITH our dog (who is extremely well behaved, but weighs more than 15lb), we ended up at the Elizabeth Lake Lodge. In the end I couldn't have been happier that no where else would take us!

WOW... This was probably one of the best hotel experiences I have ever had. It was our last stop on a long road trip from Ontario to BC and my Husband and I were tired and road weary. George at the Elizabeth Lake Lodge welcomed us with open arms. He showed us to our room personally, not before showing us the sun setting over the Kootenays, and even carried our (heaviest) bag up for us. Before he delivered the coffee maker and kettle he even called up to the room to ask if I had a preference for which kind of tea I would enjoy. They even supplied towels just for Jake (our dog). He also gave us a great recommendation for walking Jake around the bird santuary behind the hotel, and an awesome place for dinner (Frank's). What it comes down to is George didn't just make us feel like guests, we felt like friends.

So the service is without a doubt fabulous... And the accomodations were certainly up to par. Our room was cozy, and very nicely appointed. Super comfortable bed (apparently the same kind Posh and Becks sleep on!), flat screen tv, pot lights, free WiFi, heated floor in the bathroom... oh and the yummiest smelling soap ever, make exclusively for the hotel. We enjoyed the peaceful view of the grounds behind the hotel and were sad we were only staying for one night and had to leave so early in the morning to get back on the road.

We definately plan on returning!!

We have just returned from 2 weeks in BC, we are from Australia.. We did our research on trip advisor before leaving home and decided to give Elizabeth Lake Lodge a go.. We wanted to get off the beaten track a little. We wanted to do some skiing and this Lodge was very close to Kimberly mountain only 30 minutes away, so a great base. George and Rachel are so very friendly and helpful, they make you feel like nothing is too much trouble. They suggested a local ice hockey game which our boys loved (5 minutes away) We were heading to Fairmont Hotsprings when they suggeted we tried Lussier Hot Springs instead..They were amazing, in the mountains ( and free) a local secret, (thanks for sharing it with us ) Another thing we noticed is how this Hotel recycles..they provide a basket in your room to put recycable items in, something I had never seen in other hotels.. In the end we stayed 6 nights, because we all felt so comfortable here.. A true canadian winter experience.

great little base for exploring fernie and kimberley ski resorts. lake front rooms, heated floor in bathroom, our dog had his own bowl and towels - all this makes for a comfortable and great stay. george even had a cover over the sofa and bed so that bruno, our dog, could sleep wherever. the little chocolate treat we had for staying 3 nights was a bonus and oh so yummy. Highly recommend!

As previous reviews have stated, the rooms are very comfortable, warm (especially the bathroom floor) and fully stocked. Rachel is a dear. She graciously responds to requests with a smile and an interest in providing her guests with the best experience possible.
Construction is on for the new addition, but is not intrusive at all.
Let George and Rachel's Elizabeth Lodge be your destination in Cranbrook. You will not be disappointed.
