This was our first visit to this area of B.C. in mid-September and choosing St. Eugene was sheer luck. I had no idea of the history of the resort and was impressed. Our room was in the Mission itself and I couldn't get over the flooring and brick walls. We really enjoyed ourselves even though we didn't golf. My husband thought it would have been a great course to try; he noticed the lack of trees along the fairways (we're from Ontario). As others have noted, the staff were friendly and the food in the Purcell Grill was outstanding. We drove back into Cranbrook to visit the Canadian Museum of Rail Travel - not to be missed! Thanks to everyone for making this one of the outstanding stays of our week-long adventure in B.C.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the golf course and watching the evening sky was a real highlight.

We stayed September 20, 2012 and were in the lodge building near the casino in room 2127.
This is a beautiful locaton, the buildings with the red roof, the mountains in the back and, while we were there the sky was a beautiful blue.

The room is a good size and the furnishings are quite nice with a chair and ottoman and chair and desk. This part of the hotel was built in 2004 but it feels and looks older and the carpet was quite stained. The TV is an old console type and the bed was comfortable with a lumpy comforter and pillows that were too high for our comfort. The balcony was nice with a pretty view behind the parking lot, we didn't have a chance to use it but I could imagine it would be a pleasant place to watch the world go by. The bathroom was in good shape and hot water at 10:30 at night was great. We checked in at 8:30 pm (Friday night) and there were 4 sets of people in front of us, check in went quickly.

We spent a little time in the casino and it was pleasnt.

The reason for our visit was the golf - what a wonderful course. The scenery, the shape of the course - all outstanding. We'd love to go back again.

Wonderful place to stay and play. The food at the 19th hole was fantastics as were the rooms and
the staff . Would stay again in a heart beat. Highly recommend this resort!! The rooms and food were wonderful it is a little of the beaten path, but a great place to just stay and relax. It is away from all the hustle and bustle. We went in Sept so there were no children around. All the guests were middle aged so no loud noises at night which was also nice. Plus the weather was fFantastic!!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are nice We had the suite and it was awesome!!

My wife and stayed here for three nights in late-September as part of our reward for weathering hectic summer full of home selling and buying and packing, packing, packing...and then unpacking!

We have stayed at the Mission on three other occasions and have visited the Casino there five times, inclusing its opening 10 years ago. Our room was upgraded to a gorgeous mountain-view end unit with cathedral ceilings and a good sized patio. We love the smallish casiono whose staff are uniformly pleasant and we even found some "friendly" machines - no so friendly though as the one on which I won $10,000 a few years ago!

We took meals in the golf club (great menu-great food) and in the main restaurant, the Purcell Grill, whose menu, service, food and presentation were all first-class.

If you don't play golf, there's not too much to see and do other than the exercise room (well-appointed) with outside pool/hot tub and walks up and down from the Mission.

As the Kootenays are one of our favourite travel destinations in B.C., we make a point to visit and stay at the Mission whose peaceful surroundings are most relaxing.

Over the years though, we have found that grounds and hotel maintenance seems to be slipping with marks on public and room walls and furniture noted. A number of the public area chairs are also in need of cleaning or replacement.

Room Tip: The front desk are so helpful and will accomodate special requests. The Mission seems to have a good variety of room sizes and amenities

The hotel, service and food were excellent. Golf was great and the atmosphere was very relaxing. From a historical perspective, your stay should prove to be somewhat of a humbling experience. I only hope visiting tourists can do there part in keeping alive the memory and assist in building a brighter future.

Room Tip: The rooms in the old residential school would give you a better perspective of the history of the hotel
