We stayed in the Selkirk Room at the Aubergine Kicking Horse B & B for one night while passing through Golden. The room was on the small side, but was okay for the two of us as we were traveling lightly with only a travel bag each (i.e. no big suitcases as floor space was limited). There is a tall set of shelves in the room to store items. The attached bathroom was average sized, although very tall people may find their leg room limited by one of the shower walls when sitting on the toilet.

Marie-France is an energetic, welcoming, friendly, down-to-earth person. She was full of ideas for activities to enjoy, attractions to see, and places to eat. She has a display of many brochures, maps, and local menus for guests.

If spic ‘n span cleanliness is high on your list, you might want to look elsewhere for accommodations; but, if a home with a casual, lived-in feel, where guests mingle in the kitchen or living area, and visit with the owner appeals you to then you’ll enjoy your stay.

A fridge with freezer in the garage was handy for storing our ice packs from our cooler and some fresh B.C. fruit we had bought to take home.

There is an outdoor hot tub off the living area and a screened in gazebo in the yard, but we did not use either. Instead, we walked from the B & B to the downtown area to peruse the shops, have supper, and see the covered bridge, then walked back to the B & B along the river. Bug spray would’ve come in handy.

We enjoyed a delicious breakfast with freshly ground coffee made in a french press, two types of juice, homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit parfaits (especially yummy), a tasty egg dish with fresh cilantro and tomatoes baked in a casserole dish, a selection of fresh baking – berry scones and whole wheat bread (both were delicious), as well as baking from the previous day. The coffee, parfaits, and egg dish were served at the table, and the rest was served buffet style on the island where one could use the toaster as well. We appreciated the box of baggies on the island which we were encouraged to use to take some baking with us to enjoy later in the day.

I am an innkeeper as well and very much enjoyed our stay at this B&B. Marie-France was very friendly and accommodating (my son has a dairy allergy and i travel with lots of food, a cooler and ice packs - she had a fridge/freezer available for guest use which we took full advantage of!). The room was very comfortable and clean and our hostess a fountain of information. The breakfast was delicious. Marie-France does a buffet style with a scrumptious yogurt/berry sauce/home made granola parfait - it was fantastic. There were also delicious muffins, cereals available, juices, coffee/tea, and a yummy hot egg dish. You won't leave hungry!
Thanks for a great overnight stop Marie-France!

Room Tip: All of the rooms have ensuites and looked very comfortable and nicely decorated.

My wife and I spent three nights at Auberge Kicking Horse B&B with Marie and her daughter Emilie. If you are reading my review you can read all the compliments by other guests in these postings and know that I fully agree with them. Marie is a vivacious hostess willing to give her most to the guests: information about the surroundings, recommendations about restaurants, and a breakfast that gives you the energy to go the whole day - until you come back and settle into the hot tub. Golden is a great place to stay- you can go to Glacier and Revelstoke Parks in the west, Yoho Park to the East, and we even went south to Kootenay Park when we went back to Banff.
Marie recommended taking the gondola to the mountaintop at the Kicking Horse ski resort . Was she right! We had a beautiful view of the surroundings and a wonderful lunch at the top of the mountain. I don't know if I will ever get back to Golden again, but if I do I will make sure I stay here again. Ben Stern

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable and have private bathrooms.

We loved our two-night stay at the Auberge Kicking Horse. Marie-France is a wonderfully energetic and delightful hostess. Her home is warm and welcoming and she made the most amazing breakfasts, great tasting and beautifully presented. We had an extremely comfortable bed with nice linens, terrific shower and soft fluffy towels. Marie-France also had some good ideas for things to do in the area as well as restaurant suggestions. Her guests were a delightful bunch from around the world and we had great conversations and a lot of fun here.

We had a great stay at Auberge with a comfortable room and great breakfasts, Marie France was an excellent host with a wealth of local knowledge. The only downside was that it was a litttle way out of the town, but still a great place to stay.

My husband has stayed here a number of times on ski trips but this was my first visit and I thought it was great!

Warm and welcoming in spirit and in decor I was delighted with the setting and am quite sure staying here made our stop in Golden. We were given lots of suggestions and ideas from the owner who is an active participant in all the mountains have to offer.

I hope to visit in the winter next time and will be sure to eat more of that delicious homemade granola and muffins!
