“Good Place for a Night”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

I would like to give the hotel a Good rather than an Average, but it is not a Very Good. The room is renovated, very comfortable and the bed was good. The issue in winter is that it is Motel style and the snow blows in when the door opens, and when you step in with wet boots there are puddles and clumps of snow. We used the 'conference' room and that was really nice of them to let us use it, but it was cold and hidden in the basement. The pool was nice, and so was the water slide. There were several hockey teams and a few tour buses there, so the pool was crowded. The difficulty with the pool being crowded was that clothing in the change area was dripped on or tossed to the floor. That meant walking back in wet clothes or running back in a bathing suit through the wind and snow. The breakfast buffet was really good, but again because of all the teams there it was packed. Still it was stocked well and the ladies working there were terrific. I would try the place again because of the rooms being clean, the waterslide and the breakfast.

Room Tip: Second floor is probably quieter

A friend and I stayed here to go boarding at kicking horse. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. I was disappointed the restaurant closed really early which forced us to drive into town and it was snowing really bad. It was quiet night and I would return again.

Dear Justin

Thank you for your review of the Days Inn Golden. The Canyon's Edge Restaurant which is attached to the hotel is separately leased from us and like any small business owner will close for the day when there is no business.

Things are changing however as the hotel is taking over the restaurant operation effective June 15 2014 providing consistent hours and the ability to serve our guests better. Hurry back and check us out.

I was staying with a group of 4 friends at the hotel in February 2014. My major problem with the rooms was that they advertised QUEEN size beds when the actual beds are no bigger than a double and the kitchenette was poorly stocked. Pretty disappointing but whatever, we spent most of our time on the hill so it wasn't a huge issue. The spa was also broken for 3 out of the 4 days we were there. Once again, not a big deal but obviously a bit of a pain as we chose to stay at this hotel based on the facilities they were offering.

My main problem is with the afternoon / evening manager, Jack, who spoke to us in an absolutely disgusting manner. Not going to bother going into details about the incident but I don't think I have ever had someone speak to me in such a degrading way before. Standing over our group while we were sitting in the sauna acting like a thug in a nightclub and not a manager of a "reputable" hotel. My friends and I were left absolutely speechless afterwards. I will never come back to this hotel and will strongly recommend that no-one I know ever stays here either and risks being subjected to this kind of disgusting behavior.

Your money is better spent elsewhere in Golden!! Do not stay here

Room Tip: Stay at Mary's Motel downtown if you're on a budget. Don't waste your time with these pe...

Dear SunnyPerth

The Days Inn Golden has a variety of room types; our two major types are 1) guest rooms with 2 Queen Beds and our Kitchen Suites as advertised on our website with "Bedrooms with one queen, one double bed and 37" LCD TV. Private bathroom. Kitchenette with full size stove/oven, full size fridge, microwave and a Keurig coffee brewer" You may have been lead on by a On-line website with a different description. Not being sure of your stay date, but Yes we did have only our hot tub out of service for about 40 hours in that we were changing out a pump for a stronger pump with more filtration power to address a problem we had been occurring. We anticipated a day but the technician took too long forcing us to fill the hot tub after closing the first night.

Coming from the thug; you were seen by myself and another employee on our security camera taking a garbage pail of water into the sauna. Upon my attending; the pail was empty on the floor and the DRY SAUNA was steaming. Both in the interests of your safety and the cost of replacing a dry sauna that had had a pail of water poured on a live electrical device; I indeed did warn you of the consequences of your actions as I would any other guest that did the same irresponsible thing. Please examine other TripAdvisor reviews for night manager comments in recent months.

Golden is about half way between our vacation home and home. We were travelling with our grandsons and a dog so thought we would break up the trip by stopping in Golden. It was the free breakfast and waterslide that were the "sell" features, but we will make it our regular stop. The rooms are comfortable and very reasonably priced. Although the hotel had bad guests with a dog in the room below us that barked non-stop when the owners left the room, the Management dealt with the situation. It is a reflection of rude and bad dog owners not the hotel. Highly recommend staying there.

Got caught in some winter weather and slow driving so we elected to stay in Golden versus pushing it to Calgary. Used trip advisor to find this place. Rooms were nice clean, comfortable, everything yiu ask for and the price was very reasonable. Hotel is not in the main strip of hotels/restaurants/gas stations but easily accessed just off the highway up the hill towards calgary. Has a pool for the kids and there is a restaurant/lounge which was really nice cause after the 3.5 hour drive over rogers pass we didn't feel like going anywhere.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Days Inn Golden over Christmas. My last stay was two years ago. Since then the rooms have been updated with new flooring and renovated bathrooms. I found the motel was clean and the staff was great. They do supply a modest help yourself continental breakfast at no charge. The coffee was great but the area is a little crowded when they had a bus group in. As for the pool area we had our family over for a swim the water in the pool was a little cool but we got used to. The only challenge we had in the pool area where the rowdy unsupervised children running around, blocking the slide and throwing things in the pool and who left their cloths blocking the entrance one of which did not swim very well and should have been accompanied with an adult..

They could use a little work on the people they have running their restaurant as it does not open till 4 pm and is quite pricey for you get. I understand it is not run by the motel but they closed entirely for several days during the holidays leaving the hotel patrons having to go elsewhere.

The Days in Golden is clean well kept and a good value. The staff was always cheerful and helpful and the views from every room are amazing.

We are a family of 4 with 2 dogs. We stayed in a pet friendly room which was decent but standard. The pool was freezing cold and poorly maintained. My hubby slipped in the bathtub as there are no grips. We couldn't park in front of our room because the sledders took over the parking lot and we couldn't swim for long because the sledders took over the pool area and brought beer in there. When we asked the staff to do something about them they basically said they couldn't. We even had to move rooms because we lost power in one because the sledders had plugged in so many things in the outlets. They've lost control of their establishment and it feels more like a frat house. NOT A PLACE TO BRING A FAMILY! Wouldn't stay again. Too bad cuz it has the making of being a nice place to stay.

Like Daytona Beach for Spring Break; many small BC towns depend upon the sledders and skiers for their winter revenues; without them they would go broke. The most popular are Golden, Revelstoke, Sicamous, Valemount and Fernie. Three of these towns sit along the Trans Canada Highway all in a row. The National Park towns do not permit sledders but come at a higher price and sometimes just as noisy. The hotels with the large parking areas likewise attract the sledders permitting them to keep their equipment secure and close to their rooms. Guests likewise are not guaranteed a parking space in front of their guest room anywhere. With these groups we likewise get excessive alcohol consumption, the minute you leave the pool area after telling people there is no consumption of alcohol, it will re-appear.

I am curious about your pool comments about water temperature. We refurbished our pool in September likewise adding brand new electronic boilers. The boilers maintain the pool at 79 degrees and the hot tub at 104. Please don't be scared away and enjoy the hotel outside of the snowmobiling months.
