“Tops in Canada - Literally”

If you have the chance to experience lunch at the Eagle Eye restaurant at the top of Kicking Horse ski resort above Golden, BC, then absolutely do it. The gondola ride up takes approximately 15 minutes and is spectacular. By making a reservation in advance we were able to secure one of the outdoor tables which really enhanced the experience. The service was very friendly, the food was served quickly and was hot and the desert, creative and delicious. At 7,700 feet in altitude, we learned the restaurant is the highest in Canada and the scenery of the mountains only added to the special situation.
PS - ask about the Adventure Pass which includes a chair lift ride and guided tour of the grizzly bear habitat built part way up the mountain. It also got us a $10 per person discount at lunch.

“A Great Experience”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

An experience you must take if given the opportunity. The Gondola ride is fantastic. We seen Boo the Bear on the way up the mountain and again on the way back down. Great trip.

“Not Recommended”
Reviewed September 2, 2012

My girlfriend and I went here this afternoon for lunch. The lady that greeted us couldn't have had less interest. She seated us with some menus and we waited 10-15 minutes before a server came to let us know what the specials/soup of the day were and take a drinks order. It was another 10-15 minutes before she was back with the drinks to take the food order.

I ordered the steak with "thick cut fries" instead of the truffle mash offered on the menu, and my girlfriend had one of the salads. The thick cut fries turned out to be (frozen) shoestring fries. The steak was a really nice cut, very tender... but I had ordered it rare and it came out done medium-well. Atop the steak was a pretty raw shallot, which added nothing to the dish. My girlfriends salad was very dry, she needed to order extra dressing.

Other complaints:
- The draught beer was flat & warmer than it ought to be served
- There was no toilet paper in the gents crapper
- As we were leaving there was a pretty sizable queue forming, despite there being a bunch of empty tables

On the plus side the view from the restaurant is fantastic, just not nice enough to make up for the shortcomings of the restaurant. If you're in the area getting a bite at Peaks bar (at the base of the gondola) is a much better bet... Nice food, draught beer and friendly, attentive service at a reasonable cost.

“Lovely place for lunch!”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

The location alone makes this restaurant excellent. It is a spacious restaurant with a great menu and fantastic dessert (should have skipped the meal and just ordered a couple of these!). The service was great and the squirrels very friendly. :)
