we arrived after a 12 hour journey with 2 children a friend a cat and a rabbit 2 adults..Debora and thomas were very welcoming .They knew by the way we looked that we needed to stay the night .They provided us with a room with 3 double beds and a single bed .and pets were ok which was totally amazing. If you are a family travelling through bc make sure you stay here at the ponderosa for the night .The room was very clean and the most amazing part was the great welcome and provisions from the hotel managagment .we woke up late the next morning as we were still tired the breakfast was over .Debora pulled out all the food again as so we could eat !!! WOW!!!

I don't usually check around before choosing, but it was early and we had time. The Travelodge wanted the highest price for the season and wouldn't give my senior parents a discount for their room. We had stayed at Super 8 in Merritt the night before so checked out Super 8 in Golden as well. Unfortunately the lobby was so smelly I had to leave. At the Ponderosa Nicole was very helpful and eager to give a fair price when I asked for two rooms. Remember this is a Budget Motel so cleanliness really matters. It was clean! Nicole suggested we eat at the Diner accross the highway and it was worth it! (fifties theme with Elvis & Betty Boop) We enjoyed our flat screen TV, coffee maker and comfy beds. I suggested to the owner to have extra pillows in the drawers as an option for us pillow huggers :) We WILL return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that has some updating.

We stayed 2 nights during Alberta Family Day longweekend so the entire town was very busy. The staff tried their best to make our stay comfortable. The room was spartan but clean, comfy and can't hear the highway noise. Not a bad place to spend the night for $100.

Our friends booked a total of four rooms in the inn for a ski weekend. We drove into town late in the evening and were the last in our group to check in. After we had paid, we were informed that the heat doesn't work in the room, but a space heater was provided. We were assured that we "probably won't need" the heater because it was so warm (-8 degree C). Unfortunately, once we stepped into the room, we knew that the little space heater wasn't going to produce enough heat for the evening. We went to the front desk to ask if we can have another room (as their neon sign still said "vacant"); however, we were told that no other customers had complained before and all they could offer us was another (new!) space heater. It wasn't until we started discussing leaving the inn that the manager reluctantly offered us another room. We were placed in the back of the hotel, in a basement suite, where there were water stains on the ceiling and no functional fire detector. Basically, we felt like we were staying at our collage friend's basement suite. We were promised an upgrade if the suite became available, but we heard nothing from the front desk the rest of the evening and in the following morning; thus, we assumed there was nothing. After a day of skiing, we returned to our room to find it was occupied by someone else. When we went to the front desk to ask about our belongings, we were lectured by the manager about how we were too fussy in demanding an upgrade and that he needed to rent the basement room out, so our belongings had been moved by someone. We ensured him that we understood it was a busy time and that actions needed to be taken for them to run their business; however, no one at the inn phoned us about our belongings and about the change in rooms. Needless to say, better communication and professionalism would have have improved our current situation significantly.

The manager moved us to a room that is much improved from our previous. it is very clean and comfortable. But after seeing that the inn has to offer, I can definitely see why some travelers rave about the inn and other warn to "stay away."

I started this post when we went to the front desk to ask the whereabouts of our stuff... It's been about half an hour and no one seems to know where our belongings are. I don't believe I will be coming back, nor will I be recommending this inn to others.

I have stayed at the ponderosa probably a 75 nights over the last 10 years. Kind of ridiculous, I know. It has never been a luxurious hotel but more of a budget motel. I have never expected more. Over the many years I have stayed here, the prices have steadily increased but the rooms have deteriorated. The rooms are fairly clean and have fridges. Some have renovated bathrooms. The beds are old, as is the bedding. Many bedspreads have stains or holes. The towels are threadbare. The tv's are very small and also old. Some rooms have an odd dripping or ticking noise that never seems to stop. There are no hairdryers in the rooms. The bathroom windows can't be opened. The included breakfast is toast and powdered juice that has been in the same jug seemingly forever. The hot tub cover is covered in mildew. The lobby smells like a mixture of body odor and fish.

Despite having stayed so many times over the years, I have never been given any kind of discount. The rate is $79 or $89 per night plus tax. I have recently discovered that there are other hotels very close by that are much nicer, offer more amenities, and a better rate.

Thanks for the good times, Ponderosa, but I am officially breaking up with you!

Styayed here on the recommendation from a restaurant in Golden. Our stay was awsome...rooms were immaculate, great beds, sheets and towels of good quality and very clean. Our room had in room coffee, and a flat screen TV.
The manager and staff went out of their way to help us find things to see and do. In the morning, the light breakfast was more than enough to start the day. This motel must be one of the best kept secrets as our stay was wonderful. We will definitely stay there on our next trip thru Golden.

I've stayed here on three seperate occasions when driving through or skiing at Kicking Horse. Its a budget inn, so don't expect anything fancy. But it is clean, quiet and the receptionists are friendly locals who are happy to recommed local restaurants etc. and give directions. Rooms have a medium sized fridge (and I think also a microwave?). The heat works great, and there are lots of hooks to hang out your ski gear to dry. There is also a large communal hot tub, which is perfect after a long day of skiing.

I've also seen deer at the back of the property twice :)

One tip: Golden has consistently higher gas prices than Revelstoke or Lake Louise, so fill up before you arrive here!

Room Tip: first floor options are convenient since you can park right in front of your room.
