So you've left the urban/suburban caffeine mecca of the lower mainland in your dust, and you've embarked on a journey that's at least 2-3 hours drive before the next Starbuck's (or even a Tim's)... oh, the humanity!
But wait, there's hope. Literally, Hope, B.C., where you will find one of the best coffee houses in the entire world... the Blue Moose Cafe.
This place holds its own against any chain or indie coffee shop, anywhere. But in Hope - the gateway to the vast B.C. wilderness - the Blue Moose shines like a last beacon of civilization.

The folks are friendly, warmly greeting travellers and locals alike. They brew a great cup of java, have quality teas, and make bang-on espresso drinks. The muffins are a bit 'cakey' for my personal tastes, but they're good none-the-less. As are the scones, squares, cookies, etc. I believe there are also soup, sandwich, panini options availalbe (haven't paid attention to that because I'm never looking for a full meal in Hope), so you can get everything from a quick snack to a wholesome light meal.

The vibe is good - a cool blend of urban chic with small town eclectic - and there's plenty of seating to hang out while you nibble. The lovely civic park is right across the street, with a great playground for the kids to release a bit of pent up energy from the drive.

You'll be glad you scheduled a stop at the Blue Moose...enjoy!

Coffee and drinks are not just coffee and drinks at the Blue Moose. They have the product, atmosphere and staff. It is simply the best in its class in the Fraser Valley

The menu is large and the food looks very appealing. But there are no gluten-free options (other than 2 or 3 small (1/2 cup size) salads. Staff were not knowledgeable about ingredients in the soups, so those were off limits too.

Some of the best coffee I have had in BC - this may have been because I didn't request a latte with skim milk as I usually do and the extra fattiness in the milk may have just made it taste all the yummier. Either way the coffee was great. The muffins are also delicious! We got a couple every morning we were in town to bring as snacks while we went hiking. The little patio out front was an added bonus. We found the breakfast scones a little dry.

We had been on the road several weeks travelling from New Zealand and we were soooo sick of getting a meal that always included fry's. We walked into the Blue Moose and we're delighted to see "normal" lunch choises such as scones and paninis and wraps and not a fried potatoe in sight!! It was also possible to get an ordinary cup of hot tea with milk without throwing the staff into a confused frenzy! And they even offered just plain old black tea...I didn't have to suffer another herbal tea!! Husbands apple pie was supurb but his coffee was just ordinary weak North American coffee which we don't enjoy. Our turkey paninis were very tastey but so generous in size we could have shared just one. The staff were friendly and helpful and we were so happy to have had such a "home like" meal that we found the manager/owner Wes to thank him. All in all this was a great stop and we will return on our next visit. Fellow travelling Kiwi's, and even Auses will enjoy this place. Oh, last but not least they had nice clean bathrooms.
