“Beautiful b&b”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

We stayed for 3 nights in the Bear Room in early September at the end of a busy holiday. The location was stunning with views over the golf course and hillside. The sound of the trains did not bother us at all in fact we were pleased to see the Rocky Mountaineer pass by as we had travelled on it earlier in our holiday. Ear plugs were provided in case we needed them. This was just an example of how far our host Pauline was prepared to go for the comfort of her guests. She was a great host, chatty, informative and we enjoyed her company. The house is beautiful and all of the little extras that were provided, (slippers, fluffy white bath robes, variety of hot and cold drinks, chocolates on your pillow) contributed to make our last few days in BC as restful as we had hoped they would be.

Thank you for taking the time to write a really nice review on High Hopes B & B (even though you were probably shattered after an exhausting journey back to the U.K.) We really feel appreciated when our guests write to Trip Advisor and mention the "incidentals" that we try to incorporate in to their stay in order to make each visitor feel special. Thank you once again.

We stayed at High Hopes for 2 nights in the Eagle room and everything was superb, the views, the room and Pauline's hospitality, including Chip and Diamond's welcome (two little Pommeranians). We chose this B&B because of its location on a hill with fabulous views and it certainly did not disappoint us. The house was stunning and sitting out on the glass balcony enjoying the views was very relaxing. We dined at Joe's in Hope each evening, the food was excellent and this was evident as the restaurant was full both nights, even though it was mid-week.

We had read reviews regarding the train noise but as I always travel with my own ear plugs we were not put off but Pauline does supply them anyway and we enjoyed undisturbed sleep in a very comfortable bed. The trains do whistle but they do this all across Canada and for us this was "part of the scenery".

The Coquihalla Canyon Provincial Park is only a short drive from the B&B and is well worth visiting. The Canyon itself is a beautiful place, quite magical, it also houses the Othello Tunnels, old, disused railway tunnels and walking through them was an interesting experience.

On our last night as we set out for dinner from High Hopes there was a black bear walking up the road towards us, right next to our car. It was a very special moment, although our camera was not to hand unfortunately.

We would definitely recommend High Hopes, it was a lovely way to end our holiday.

Thank you for your wonderful review. Really glad you enjoyed your stay at High Hopes so much and also the surrounding parks and restaurants (Joe's in particular). All of the visitors since you stayed have been told the story of the guests who encountered the black bear, but unfortunately, none have been lucky enough to catch a glimpse since. Chips and Diamond send their love. Not sure what they would do if they came face to face with any wildlife!

This b&b is located on a hill above the Hope golf club and has stunning views including regular sightings of Eagles. The house is a bit outside Hope, a car is advisable, but the town centre can also be reached in approx. 40 min, a nice walk. We stayed at the Eagle room wich has all comforts, including it's own balcony and ensuite bathroom.

We arrived on a hot day (33 deg. C.) and found the room to be very hot and humid. The house does not have airconditioning yet, our sympathetic host Larry is still working on this. The balcony offered no shade and remained too hot untill sunset. We found the most disturbing fact was however that the house is located right above a curved train track where, at least on the day that we stayed there, 2 or 3 times a day (maybe less at night, but they continue running at night) a long noisy train passes with shrieking noises and a loud whistle. This sort of spoiled our experience as we did not find the tranquillity we were looking for.

There are interesting hikes and water activities in the Hope region, but for most you have to drive at least 40 km. We found the Devil's gate in Fraser Canyon quite disappointing and the short Airtram ride costly.

Thank you for bothering to take the time to write a review on High Hopes Bed and Breakfast and commenting on the stunning views from the Eagle room. British Columbians have all been praying for warmer weather for the past month, but unfortunately I think we overdid it. Yes, the day you arrived, the temperatures broke all records and hopefully when our air-conditioning is up and running (soon), this will not be a problem. Likewise with the train noise, as when all the doors and windows are closed, you can hardly hear them. Honestly! It's a pity you didn't ask about the various hikes around Hope as we have an excellent booklet outlining every one rated from easy to difficult and none of them are very far away.

This was our first experience in a B&B in Canada. We normally stay in Lodges or Cabins. After leaving here we stayed at 4 other B&B's and each time my husband said 'well done, you've booked another good one'. High Hopes set the bar for the others.
We can't stress enough how much we enjoyed the hospitality at High Hopes.
Thanks Pauline for a lovely nights rest after a v stressful drive from Vancouver via the roadworks. It took hours, good job it wasn't peak time or we may still be stuck there.
The eagle room is wonderful, we felt v at home there. We saw a pair of eagles from our balcony.
You probably noticed that I couldn't fit your lovely carved lamp stands in our already bulging cases! Seriously, they are incredible as is all the decor and attention to detail with this purpose built home.
Thanks for the green tea for me and the fresh milk for Al. I thought I was an early riser.
Thanks for the leisurely b'fast, just wish I could have eaten more.
Nice to meet your Dad.
Please give Chip and Diamond a cuddle from us, they are so cute.
We loved the trains, we had packed earplugs for travelling Canada but it was nice to see you provided them too.
We loved supper at Papandreas even though they ran out of bakclava.
We enjoyed the Othellos tunnels on our way to Kamloops.
We 'hope' to come back again next time we are in Canada.
Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and it sounds like you enjoyed the rest of your holiday in Canada too. Chips and Diamond are still greeting visitors with licks and wags and thankfully, most people appreciate this. And the eagles are still flying around outside the Eagle room. It was lovely to meet some Kiwis who were originally from England and "hope"fully you will think of us if ever you return to Canada.

My wife and I recently had the pleasure of vacationing at this stylish B&B thanks to a recommendation from from some close friends who visited Canada last year. We arrived late, but were still met with warm smiles from our gracious and knowledgeable hosts. We stayed in the Bear Room which was cozy with large comfortable beds and tasteful decor. Since retiring, my wife and I have spent a lot of time traveling and rarely find an inn or B&B as clean and inviting as this one was. The virtual panoramic views of the mountains and valley below are breathtaking. The enormous glass windows showcase the golf course and the Fraser River running beside it. The 3 days that we stayed at High Hopes were exquisite. The weather was warm and the air fresh, as we hiked, fished, swam, and golfed in total relaxation. At night we drank wine and sat beside the fire with another couple in the lavish living room area. High Hopes is the perfect getaway retreat (my wife and I are already planning another visit later this summer). Thanks Again!

Like so many others have already said, we had an excellent time at Larry and Pauline's B & B. We had a not so nice experience the previous night at another B &B, so this was a great change!

We stayed at High Hopes for one night on our journey from Vancouver to Canmore but wish we'd stayed for longer. Our hosts - including the dogs were so friendly and helpful we immediately felt at home. The property and its views are stunning and the Eagle Room in which we stayed was amazing. We would recommend High Hopes to anyone and everyone.

Thank you so much for your FIVE STAR rating. We wished you could have stayed longer and Chips and Diamond were obviously very friendly towards you. They still welcome all our visitors at the front door and pretend they are guard dogs - instead of wee pomeranians!
