This is well worth the trip. Old railway tunnels cut through a mountain, all set in beautiful woodland and overlooking a fabulous creek. Easy parking and basic toilet facilities. What's not to enjoy!

My family and I were in Hope this past Friday, and we didn't know what to do while we waited to pick-up our son at camp. The nice lady at the Travel Centre suggested that we take the time to hike the Othello Tunnels. At first we were a little apprehensive, but once we were there and came into view of the tunnels we were hooked! The tunnels are amazing! The scenery is spectacular, and if you love taking pictures like I do, you will enjoy the beauty and history that unfolds each time you enter a tunnel. We will definitely return next summer, and we will take a picnic this time and stay longer. The walk is easy, and is good for young children to 100 years old! You can take your time, but make sure to take a flashlight if you are a bit nervous walking through the dark. We grabbed a map from the Hope tourist Info Centre before we drove to the Othello Tunnels.

After more than 10 years in the greater Vancouver area, we were amazed to discover this gem we have never heard about only 1.5 hour away from home. Just a short hike to the impressive tunnels, crossing the beautiful gorge several times. On the way back we rested next to the river enjoying the scenery around. The engineer who lead the work on the railroad had done a really impressive job here a hundred years ago. It is worth taking the time to read the signs posted explaining what was done and why.

This was a daytrip for us. It is a little past Hope (east of Hope) off the Highway. It is an easy drive in the summer, likely not in the winter. The tunnels take about 30min to walk through and explore and are stunning.

The trail then continues onwards for quite a while. We did about 2 hours in total. Kid friendly and the path can be biked (for kids). There is also a lake where we spent an hour walking in the water and relaxing.

Would combine this with another area like Harrison or Bridal Falls - not worth going just for this.
