“Unfinished Room and watch out for the bugs!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

I was disappointed with my experience at the Quality Inn in Merritt. The bed was nice but there was literally a two foot hole in the wall which exposed the wiring and the inside of the wall. If the room was in the process of being renovated, it should not have been rented out to guests. The other big problem was the poor insulation for the rooms. I was woken up at 6:00 AM by guests leaving and for the next hour-and-a-half I could hear every nearby guest getting ready and wheeling their luggage by the room. The place also had a large number of bugs inside and outside the room which was a bit creepy. When you stay at a cheap hotel you expect that, but I would have expected more of a Quality Inn. This place may be better once renovations are completed, but the online pictures don't tell the full story about the hotel conditions.

I am not sure, when this guest stayed at Quality Inn, Merritt or what room they occuppied. But for those of you reading this review. I can assure you, since we became Quality Inn, in May, all our renovations inside the rooms have been completed. With the exception of new furniture, approximately only half of our rooms furniture has been updated, but the remaining furniture will be coming soon. It is not our practice to place a guest into a room, that is not suitable, for example a room with a huge hole in the wall.
The only construction we have presently ongoing, which at this time, due to the heavy flow of guests, has been stopped, til is slow down, is the exterior of the building. We will commence this project once it slows down.
About the bugs. Again, I am not sure what this guest was speaking of. Yes, it is the season where there are insects in flight, and not too much we can do about that, we do however try to keep the rooms free of them.
I am sorry this guest felt their expectations were not met when staying at the Quality Inn, we do strive to meet Everyone's expectations, and do our best to correct any issues they may have immediately

We returned to Merritt recently to visit our son and his family. We have stayed at the once Best Western, changed to Nicola Inn and now the Quality Inn of Merritt. Being three time veterans of this hotel, we already knew the room that we wanted, which was very important to us since my wife is mobility challenged and spends most of her time wheelchair bound. So we booked the specific room 210 months in advance.

Before continuing, I must first say that we believe that the Quality Inn is still the best choice for handicapped visitors to Merritt and that the new management was very open and accepting of our comments regarding handicapped accessibility improvements seriously required in the hotel. Upon completing an exit survey, the desk manager responded to us promptly and positively. We want to thank them for this and acknowledge their sincerity.

That said, upon arrival, we were told that the room we had booked was not available. It was currently under construction and was being used by the contractor. There had been no attempt to inform us of this before our arrival. We were given room 116, which we had stayed in the first time we used this hotel and had not been happy with. At this point we really had no alternative but to accept the arrangement. At least we had our rate reduced by $10/night.

During our stay, the staff were very nice, friendly and accommodating. The new breakfast room was very nice and had a reasonable variety of food available between 6:00 - 10:00 am. The sausages and waffles were especially good. There was a variety of breads and buns. Apple and orange juice, yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, coffee and assorted teas. The preformed fried eggs however left much to be desired. My wife opted for the boiled eggs most days.

In terms of handicapped accessibility, our room while being billed as such, only had one feature that could qualify it, a single hand bar in the bathtub. The room between the bed and the dresser was very narrow for a wheelchair to navigate. We had to pull up the bedspread so that my wife could fit between. There was a strip of marble in the bathroom doorway, which made it difficult to roll a wheelchair in or out. The bathroom door opened into the bathroom, rather than the handicapped standard of opening out. The one piece surround bathtub was too narrow to accommodate the bath seat provided by the hotel. It need to be placed lengthwise for my wife to use it. The height of the tub was such that I had to lift my wife in and out while she hung onto the bar for dear life. The bed was too high for her, which on one occasion caused her to slide out of bed and fall on the floor when she tried to transfer to her wheelchair. She thankfully did not sustain any serious injury, just cuts and bruises.

Although typical of most hotels, the computer provided in the main lobby for guests was poorly secured giving everyone administrator rights (unlimited access) to the computer. Guests had installed various software packages and being an industry professional, I too installed a proper anti-virus product and scanned the computer. I removed and disinfected some 11 viruses and Trojans from the machine before I felt it was safe to use. Please note, this unfortunately is common practice in most hotels. Always beware of using public computers with no proper security. The WiFi in the hotel did not use standard WEP nor WPA encryption security and seemed rather spotty at the end of the building. Hence communications were open and unsecured.

As I said previously, the new management of the hotel seemed very open to our suggestions and we are sure that they will remedy the deficiencies that we have noted.

Room Tip: Merritt is a popular over-night stop for travelers. Make sure to book a room in advance. Also ask to...

We apologize for the inconvenience of you stay. Yes it is true, the room, you had originally reserved was not available, due to the large task of renovations we have been undergoing, since the beginning of November. Unfortunately, since the time you made your reservation, we had changed over to the Quality Inn, meaning brand new computer system, and with that, we had to manually transfer, all the reservations from the old system to the new system. It was an oversight that, it was not posted on your reservation, that you had requested a specific room, so unfortunately we did not realize it so that is why you were not informed of room change prior to your arrival.
We have taken your suggestions regarding the issues you faced in the room, ie, the tub assist etc, and have since already purchased the correct apparatus.
We do hope this last experience will not deter you from coming back. Again, our apologies, for not meeting your expectations.

Travelling from Edmonton to Langley, we decided to overnight in Merritt and happy we did. Travelling 8 hours with two dogs can be stressful and filled with breaks so after a long day it was a relief to find our hotel.
The QI is going through renovations and was very comfortable. Being a pet friendly hotel we expected the room to be sub-par, however were amazed that not being the case. Staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant attached was a nice feature as well.
A great place to stay if you are wanting to get off the beaten path...and rest!.

Thanks QI Merritt!

From all of us here at Quality Inn, Merritt thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to give us such a great review on Trip Advisor. It is our goal to ensure that all of our guests enjoy their stay with us. Learning the expectations were met, gives us great satisfaction.
More and more people are travelling with their furry family members, and we are pleased to be able to offer pet friendly rooms, and just because they are pet friendly does not mean they should be anything less than any other room. Of course we have limited pet rooms, so whenever making reservations, it is important, that guests let us know they will have a pet arriving with them, so they can be assured we will have a pet friendly room available.
Thank you again for the great review, and if Merritt is ever in your destinations plans in the future, I hope Quality Inn, Merritt will once again be your first choice.

The hotel was being renovated when we stayed there but it didn't effect the stay at all. The beds were amazing comfortable and the rooms were fairly big. The bathrooms were a little small but that's really no big deal. They have fridges in the rooms which we were happy about. Very good free breakfast in the morning and very friendly staff!

This hotel is being renovated, and the room we stayed in was delightful.I fell in love with their beautiful new bathroom decor.I also like that the toilet, bathtub and sink are all in one room.I slept well except the first night when our neighbor decided to play loud music that shook the room, but management was very quick to deal with it.The bed was comfy with lots of puffy pillows, and everything was very clean.Breakfast had everything you would expect in a continental buffet, waffles, bagels, boiled eggs ,cereal, fruit, assorted sweet rolls and muffins, and the lady looking after it was very nice, and helpful. The pool and hot tub were wonderful. We usually just stop for lunch in Merritt, on our way through to the Okanagan, but this time we wanted just a little break from the grind, without a lot of driving from the coast, and this place was perfect.
If you want good Chinese buffet for dinner ,try Canada Cafe on the main street, Friday or Saturday night. The place doesn't look like much but the food is great! We will definitely be back to the Inn the next time we need to wind down for a few days.

On behalf of the General Manager and the staff of Quality Inn, Merritt, I would like to thank you for taking the time to give us such a great review. These reviews are very important for us, as they not only allow future guests know how we rank, but gives us the insight as to where our strengths and weaknesses are, so we can improve if areas that we need to.
Since your stay, we have become the Quality Inn, and offer a full breakfast to our guests. Freshly renovated rooms, and though there is still some renovations still on going, it does not interrupt our guests stay.
If you are ever back our way, we truly hope Quality Inn will be your first choice.

The hotel was recently renovated, clean and quiet, and the bed had a great matrass. The location was easy to find, nearby the highway turnoff. Staff was very friendly. Although breakfast was included, you have lots of other options such as Starbucks and TH within walking distance. If you need to be in this area, i recommend you stay here! There is also a pool and hottub that wasn`t advertised, and a restaurant on site.

Rooms are clean, beds are average. Cheap, decent road side motel. Free breakfast and rooms are reasonably appointed. Good enough for a road trip. Great location. Close to everything. It's Merritt after all. Nothing is far from anything. Nice community.
