“Amazing get away!”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

We stayed at Hume for a business trip/get away close to Halloween. The hotel was busy, but the service was excellent.

We at that evening in the library lounge and food was amazing. Not to mention the old library is beautiful.

My only complaint was the sound from the night club after 8 pm was loud. I can't really complain though because they let us know this before we booked our room.

I would recommend one of the newly renovated rooms and take some time to explore the hotel. They say it is haunted. (Although we didn't see any ghosts)

If you are looking for more than a clean room and good service The Hume Hotel is the place to stay!

Room Tip: Make sure to book a newly renovated room, on the upper floors. Some times the night club can be a bi...

Hi Mike. We appreciate the positive review but I must say that I enjoyed looking at all of your photos. It's not often that reviewers take the time to post photos. It looks as though you stayed in Minnie's Room which is a favorite Deluxe Corner Room for many of our guests. I'm glad that you also enjoyed the food services throughout the hotel. You're right, the Library Lounge is beautiful with its original fireplace and caryatids holding up the ceiling. There's no place like Hume.

This is my second stay at the Hume Hotel. I stayed at the Hume Hotel Feb 21-24, 2014 for a sports seminar. The staff at the hotel are extremely friendly and helpful. The location is great as it is within walking distance to most shops and restaurants (the Walmart is only a 10 mins walk and the waterfront is a 5 mins walk). The rooms have been recently updated on the 3rd and 4th floors and have all the amenities you'd expect from a modern hotel. Also, breakfast is included as part of your room fee.I have already booked my stay for next year.

This was an excellent experience. Great hotel, fun town, and probably the best hotel and restaurant service I've had. The rates were very reasonable too. The skiing was amazing as well as the local sights.

The Hume has been doing it over and over again for our Ski group the past 20 years! We barely have to leave the place, from breakfast, to Mike's after skiing to the Library then back to MIke's the Hume has it all. The rooms are great and the food is always outstanding.
What really makes the Hume on top of the basics is the staff that are over-the-top, From the front-desk, to the restaurants and the Pub right up to Management the people there are exceptional! Always smiling, always happy and always interested if we are enjoying our stay They all really go out of their way to make guests happy. We look forward to seeing the familiar faces every year. Our ski trip would not be the same if we didn't stay at the Hume every year!

Room Tip: Upper floors have great views of the Lake!

Hi Larry. It is always a treat for us when you come back the same week year after year. You guys are so much fun. Skiing seven straight days at Whitewater is something to be proud of! You guys really timed it perfectly with how good the conditions were up there...and the Valentine's Day Burlesque Show in the Spiritbar was a great kick off to the week.

We appreciate all the business you have given the hotel and for all the people you tell about us. You were lucky when you booked the Rapunzel Room when you did because literally the next day another group was trying to book it and they couldn't believe that it was already taken...!

I must also admit that I enjoyed shredding some of those powder chutes on the legendary 'Backside' of Whitewater. That made my week.

Thanks for all your kindness. See you in 2015!

Wonderful get-away for a" night on the town" at this gem of Nelson. We stayed in one of the newly, tastefully renovated suites. Lovely view, sleek tile, very clean, comfy and charming. Enjoyed dinner in the relaxing Library Lounge, the oysters and spinach salad were beautifully prepared, along with tasty local beer and wine. Loved dancing at the Spiritbar nightclub-very upbeat atmosphere. Breakfast in the "General Store" was welcoming, great food and service. Inviting staircase, plenty of intriguing heritage photos and artifacts throughout the entire venue, friendly staff. Great vibe, highly recommended.

Hi Verna. It's always nice to see locals having a fun night on the town and staying overnight. You really got the full experience with dinner in the Library, an energetic performance by Delhi 2 Dublin in Spiritbar, a night in a newly renovated room and a free, full hot breakfast in the morning. Thanks for spending a night with the historic Hume and for giving us such a glowing review.

This is a great hotel in the heart of Nelson. We had a pet friendly room in the unrenovated part of the hotel. It was great and while these rooms are over the pub, we didn't find the noise too disturbing. The staff were awesome and very pet friendly as well.

The Hume Hotel has a great location in Downtown Nelson. Easy walking distance to unique shopping experiences. The Hume has great historical significance to the area and is why we stay there for the second time. There is a pub and restaurant that serves great food. The PM bar tender was very friendly and on top of what was happening in the pub. We were not impressed with the staff at the front desk. They didn't seem very welcoming upon our arrival and this didn't improve throughout the stay. They didn't wear name tags so were not able to inform anyone. The cleaning staff were very loud smashing outside in the halls very early Sunday am. The rooms are very very hot. No air flow even with the windows open. The air conditioning units are new on the 3 & 4th floors but don't run. Ask for a floor fan or bring one from home or your stay maybe unbearable. Ask for a room that does not look out onto the alley. Ask to look over Ward St. Other rooms are very loud as there is a night club and bar underneath and smoke flows into open windows.

Room Tip: Don't get rooms that overlook alley. Ask for a fan. Ask for a room away from ice machine, elev...

I am sorry that your stay at the hotel was not beyond satisfactory. All our front desk staff wear name tags so I am a bit perplexed by that - perhaps somebody forgot to wear one and/or one of our new trainees did not have one made just yet. I have forwarded your comments to them. We take pride in having a very friendly staff throughout the entire facility so I apologize if anyone seemed cold during your stay.

We do have rooms that face out over Ward Street and Vernon Street as well as rooms that face inwards toward the alley. Phoning in to make a reservation would be best whereby you can request to have a room facing outside. You are right that we have a popular pub and nightclub which can be noisier on weekends. I hope you were notified of this when you made your reservation and when you checked in.

Next time you are coming through, please contact me directly and I will see to it that you are accommodated in a comfortable outside facing room. I know we can provide a better experience than what you received.
