On May 25, the local Grans to Grans organization that fund raises for the Stephen Lewis Foundation, which supports Grans in Africa who are raising grand-children as the parents are dead from AIDS, held a lovely luncheon-fashion show-jewellery sale event at this hotel. It was a perfect venue. The luncheon was excellent; thanks to Greg the catering manager and the fine team in the kitchen who alway produce excellent food. The Hume Room was excellent and contributed to the ambiance and the wonderful rekindling of relationships from throughout the community. The Hume is the heart of this community!

Just to tell you how hard the housekeeping staff work - I happened to be in town early in the morning for 3 consecutive days; every day, the housekeepint staff were busy dusting off the exterior entrance-way and the lovely patio. This is just an indication of the standards met by this hotel.

Can hardly wait to see their 3rd floor renovations.

Thanks for another excellent review, Sheila! We are fortunate to be so centrally located in this wonderful town and we try to be there for the community in every way possible. Our Catering Manager, Greg Schlosser, has been with us since we bought the hotel in 1980 - 33 years! He epitomizes loyalty and hard work. We appreciate you taking the time to tell the world about our historic hotel.

We stayed at the Hume Hotel while we were in Nelson moving our daughter home from Selkirk College in May. I would highly recommend their newly done rooms as it is way quieter. The location was perfect, but finding a place to park was difficult as they do not have a very big parking lot. It was wonderful having a full, hot breakfast included in the price of your room!

Hi all,

All I can say is that you have to see the amazing work that Ryan and team have done on the 4th floor (and now working on the 3rd) of the Hotel. They have totally remodeled and updated. The stay was great and the service from all areas was very good. So, have a bit of patients while they finish of the rest as it will make this the Only place to stay in Nelson. Good bands in the Spirit lounge, pool up in Mikes place, fireplace and cozy times in Library and on and on...

Room Tip: Ask fro the 4th floor as the rooms are unreal...

Some of our party was in an old room and some were in the newly renovated room. The old room definitely needs some work but is good and quaint. The new room is great. Well decorated and good features. There is some noise with the club and pub so if you have a hard time sleeping you might want to take them up on the ear plugs they offer.

We stayed at the Hume Hotel the first part of May. What a lovely hotel and it is only getting better. I say this because the hotel is under renovation at this time and will be for some time to come.
We were given a newly renovated room on the fourth flour and it was absolutely wonderful. They have kept the decor in line with the "old" feel of the hotel.
They are working on the third floor at this time, but do not start construction until after nine am so we were not inconvenienced at all.
We enjoyed good food in both the restaraunt and the lounge. We also received an excellent full "order off the menu" breakfast in the morning that was included in the price of the room.
Staff was friendly and service was good
The location is great, only one block from main street and all of the shops.

Room Tip: I will give the hotel five stars when the renovation is finished.

Stayed 2 nights in the newly remodeled 'Rapunzel' room. Beautiful room with granite countertops, wood floors and beautiful french doors overlooking downtown Nelson. Would love to give them 2 more stores, but unfortunately the remodel is also part of the problem. There is absolutely zero soundproofing between the rooms. The first night the TV next door was so loud (plus being wall mounted) it was like we were inside a speaker. Second day, it was like our room and the room next door shared the same bathroom. EVERY sound seemed like the person was in a public stall right next to you. If, when, they get the soundproofing fixed this will be a great place to stay.

We are sorry you found the walls thin - what may have contributed to this is the fact that underneath you is a third floor renovation with zero sound proofing under your floor at this point. Within a few weeks we should have the insulation installed and covered with drywall which should assist immensely.

We are glad you found them to be beautifully redone. We are proud of how they have turned out.

Thanks for staying with us.

My first stay at the Hume and I loved it. The staff was friendly and helpful in answering all questions and making recommendations. The restaurant and lounge were inviting with great menus. And the renovated rooms on the fourth floor are beautiful and spacious.

The only reason I'm not rating it higher at this point is because of the third floor renovation work. At check-in, we were informed of the work being done and fully expected the noise levels to be elevated. But the noise was so excessive that we could not be in our room during the day. We could easily hear normal level conversations between the workers on the floor below. I hope this is not a foreshadowing of the soundness between rooms when the renovations are completed.

Our apologies for the third floor noise. We have been up front with everyone when making a reservation that from now up to July we are putting the finishing touches on the third floor. The noise goes from 9am to 5pm. We do not have the sound barrier in between floors as of yet so it is noisier than it will be once we are completed.

The new phase features nine gorgeous new rooms along the front and west wing of the third floor. By July, 2/3 of all the guest rooms will be completely renovated. Heritage Rooms are still available to rent (unrenovated rooms) at a lesser price if that is more in a person's budget.

Thank you for the review. We are happy to hear that you loved everythihng with the exception of the construction noise.
