We booked the room a night before due to changed travel plans. Having read about the possible noise in the rooms that were lower, we opted for a deluxe King room facing inside. It was on the fourth floor, and truly quiet.
The room and service were impeccapble.
The breakfast (and the dinner that we also ate at the Hume) were more "average".

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, do pay the extra for an inside-facing room on the 4th floor.

We stayed at the Hume on a Saturday night in Feb 2013. We were advised on check-in that there was a bar and nightclub in the hotel, but on the 3rd floor it should be quiet. It was not.

The room is very comfortable, big soft bed and shag carpet. The TV was a fuzzy old CRT model. Unfortunately there was no way to adjust the heating other than opening a window out to the large kitchen extractor fans in the car park. Not a place to stay if you want a good night sleep, especially on a Saturday,

The room was very clean, the shower pressure was amazing and the breakfast was great. Staff were very friendly, and there was room to park our SUV in the free parking beside the hotel. Mikes Bar (in the hotel) was a great pub to watch the hockey.

Room Tip: Our room mentioned it was Heritage Room - maybe there are some modern rooms in the hotel with adjustable heating?

Sorry we weren't able to exceed your expectations a bit more. It sounds as though there were many things that you enjoyed about the hotel.

We apologize that you found it noisy. We always let people know that we can't guarantee quiet rooms on weekends.

As far as the heat goes, you could have simply turned off the heat by shutting the steam radiator dial off. It is an old system but part of the charm. Even opening the window in the middle of winter would have cooled it down within one minute.

We hope that you give us another try. You will have to try out one of the newly renovated fourth floor rooms next time. They are quieter and have thermostat controls which makes maintaining the room temperature much easier. By summer, the room that you stayed in will already be completely renovated so we should not have these types of issues any more.

Thanks for your review.

We went for dinner at mikes place and were a little disappointed! The service was fantastic, cute little bar but the food was average for the price. We were both Lookin forward to a good pub feed and came out disappointed. The food wasn't bad it was just blah. I had the fish and chips- it came with a tiny piece of fish which was good but so small that I basically felt like all I ate was fries n salad for dinner. My partner had the cheeseburger which he said was also average. Again, it was not worth what we paid. We would go again for drinks and the amazing service but probably give dinner a miss!

We arrived without a reservation and there was two rooms available. We took the lesser of the two on the advice from the clerk that the room was very small. The room we had was massive! It had an attached kitchen unit that we did not use, double bed, and a desk work area.

The floors were squeaky and delightful! The rooms decor was full of kitsch! Basic, functional and charming.

We had a beverage in the pub. It was solidly packed with people. Menu looked great and there was a great selection of local brews. Yum.

Parking was limited and we had to find a spot on the street about a block away.

Hotel breakfast in the morning was included. Excellent food and perfect greasy breakfast.

Overall a good one night stay. I do not think I would love this for extended visits to the area.

don't come here expecting new furnishings and sparkling shine - come here expecting something that feels like a step into the past (in a fun/good way). The hotel is showing serious wear, no doubt, but the atmosphere and character is very unique. This is a good choice if you aren't worried about some worn carpet in exchange for a historic feel.
