I have been asked to write a review of El Nido, a B & B 'nest/guest ' house, that I stayed in a few times on trips to the Kootenays. However, I am somewhat reluctant to do so, as I feel it could jeopardize a possible future stay, since the more people discover it, the more it will get booked up, limiting availability.
The place is enchanting, magical. As we drove up the winding dirt road off the highway, I sensed the tranquility and beauty, in the surrounding forest.
You are greeted by a smiling statue of Buddha, just off the path and soon you arrive in front of the house. Humble- looking at first, wood and stone, its front appears deceivingly small. Yet once inside, it takes your breath away. I loved the open space design, with floor to ceiling windows in the large living room, looking out to the lake. Beautiful large clean kitchen.
Windows everywhere. I immediately felt a desire to stretch out, dance, and let the stress and grime of the city melt away.
Nooks inside and out, allow for privacy if you need it. I found a hammock at one end of the surrounding deck, and was content to read and dream there, for hours, unseen and undisturbed by the folks at the other part of the house. The bathroom is luxurious, complete with large soaker tub, steamy shower room, and more windows framing the beauty of nature.
Our bedroom was downstairs, large and comfy, with its own deck overlooking the lake. The outdoor lounging spaces are relaxing, and the views are breathtaking.
I live and work in the city, and coming to this place was paradise for me.
Clean, quiet, spacious, and beautiful, inside and out.
The stars light the night sky, and in the morning the whir of hummingbirds delight, in this luxurious tree house.
But really, I wouldn't go there if I were you. You won't want to leave. You will tell all your friends, and we will have to be put on waiting lists, for our next stay.
El Nido was a perfect romantic getaway, equipped with all the modern conveniences, yet set in the wilderness, high above beautiful Kootenay lake. It was a feast for all the senses, and a rejuvenator for the spirit!
