Prestige Inn Nelson
Ranked #9 of 10 Hotels in Nelson
Reviewed October 5, 2013 via mobile

I stayed only 1 night in September and will not return. The inn is on the side of a hill and the first floor rooms are on different levels so you must deal with stairs. The first room I was given smelled of mildew. The inn is a bit of a walk to town and restaurants. At 1am a train went by behind the inn and the whole building shook. I've stayed in other hotels in Nelson, including the prestige lakeside, and they are much nicer.

We recently stayed 2 nights for the Nelson car show. This Inn is very charming and our room was decorated in an antique theme and very comfortable. We were on the third floor so we found it to be quiet, we did hear the train but we didn't find it too loud.
Now the down side. Because we were there for the car show we had a car that we like to keep an eye on. There isn't enough parking spaces for all the guests, so the first night we had to park in a no parking zone. The second night there were cars parked all over the grass. They do have an "overflow" parking area but it's dirt, which was mud because it had been raining for days. If that "overflow" area does belong to them then they should pave it so it's more convenient for guests.
Would we stay there again? Yes, but only if we didn't have our car with us.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms in the back have a balcony with a lake view.

We had two nights in this attractive , clean hotel. As with most of the rooms we had a lake view and a balcony. The furniture was a mix of modern and retro, the floors wood effect.
The lake view was spoiled by commercial buildings, pylons and telegraph poles, oh...... and a tramway and railway line.
The train itself (passing at 0135 day 1 and 0045 day2) was not too bad but the blasts from its whistle would wake the dead.
We knew it affected the rest of the guests as the thin walls and inadequately soundproofed floorboards made us aware of every weary footstep and flushed WC. We won't be staying there again.

We stayed at this hotel and were very satisfied. Ryan at the front desk was very helpful and friendly and accommodating. He was eager to recommend great local restaurants. Our room was comfortable and certainly adequate. While we were warned of the train, we honestly didn't hear it. We were very pleased overall.

It's never a good sign when you check in to a hotel and the desk person offers you complimentary earplugs for the train that blasts it's horn right outside your window at 5:30 am. The fact that this is not mentioned on their website is very unethical. If it wasn't the long weekend with no where else to go I would have gone elsewhere. The rooms are tiny but ok, a/c vibrated very loudly and floors are hardwood do you can hear everyone walking above you. For almost $200.00 a night I thought I was getting the Prestige resort not realizing my mistake. Parking is very limited also and we had to park in a unlit dirt lot on the other side of the tracks. The staff was friendly though...

This hotel has an interesting location, very close to the railway tracks and the train comes by at around 2:30 in the morning. The hotel does give out complimentary ear plugs but I don't remember the train closeness being mentioned on their website. The hallways have a series of stairs, up and down which would be a real hardship for anyone in a wheelchair and those using a cane and with limited mobility. On the third floor there are no balconies and a small window which holds an air conditioner. Front desk was helpful and the furnishings are modern and tasteful. No restaurant or pool.

Room Tip: Ask for first or second floor so you get a room with a balcony.

Nice looking hotel in Nelson B.C.. The walls and ceiling are paper thin so the noise was annoying. Twice daily a very long train passes behind the hotel within 30 feet of our room. The train comes by at 6:30 p.m. and 5:30 A.M.. On Sunday morning around 2:30AM. The hotel is beside a street that crosses the train tracks so the train has to sound it's horn. The King sized bed was not comfortable. The room did have a good sized flat panel tv.
The hotel has a wonderful view of the lake and the city park. The hotel staff are very nice. We selected the hotel through Groupon for two nights at an excellent discount. Breakfast voutures valued at $10.00 each at Ric"s Grill at the more modern Prestige Resort about two blocks from our hotel. We also received two other dinner $50.00 dinner voutures also at Ric"s Grill. If you stay at this hotel make sure you get a room with a balcony! There is no restaurant or fitness center at this hotel.

Room Tip: If you have the funds, go to the Prestige Resort as it is new and deluxe plus the train doesn't...
