Stayed here for two nights over the 2011 Canada Day long weekend and had an excellent experience. Large bathroom, superbly comfortable large beds and everything was totally clean! All staff were friendly and helpful from the front desk attendant to the maids. The hotel restaurant was on the pricey side, but a seat on the lakeside patio was beautiful. The patio had the best view of the Canada Day fireworks on the lake in all of Nelson!

Only negative, when given the option of a Lakeview room or a Mountainview room we chose the Mountainview as the Lakeview was an additional, though not substantial, cost. Unfortunately, the Mountainview turned out to be a direct view of the parking lot with a hill in the background. Next time I would definitely pay the extra money for a Lakeview, I imagine it would have been quite a different experience.

I stayed 4 nights in a city view room. City view was a view of the parking lot as I was on the ground floor. I have stayed here before and had a lakeview room on the off season. The decor was modern and nice and the rooms were well lit for working. Rics Grill in the hotel is decent but a little pricey. I love Nelson ... I travel there for work a couple of times a year and I love the charm of the city. I love both the hippy atmosphere and the artsy community feeling you get from the city. The Prestige lakeside is a great place to stay when travelling to Nelson. There is a small fridge in the room for cold drinks and such. Also a great little coffee shop in the hotel. Overall, a great place to stay and I know that I will be staying here again.

Room Tip: A lakeside room is a must if you can fit it into your budget. The ground floor lakeside rooms have...

We were in Nelson for 2 nights during the Canada Day long weekend. We came looking for a room around 11:00pm without a reservation, and they found a room for us, and suggested places to eat in the area as their restaurant had just closed. Excellent customer service, phenomenal room service food (and room service is usually not-so-good)...even the spa moved things around to fit my husband and I in for massages and pedicures. Location is lovely (try to face the lake, but even the parking lot is fine if it's high enough of a floor). We will definitely stay here again!

It was a quick stop-over nite due to snow conditions. The room was not very clean at all.

Our hotel room was very clean and well appointed. It would be great if there were suite options here so that if you need to travel with kids, you can put them to bed in a separate room. Staff were enthusiastic and responsive to our needs. If sleeping through the night is important to you, beware of the earth-shattering train and whistle that might disturb you in the middle of the night! Having stayed in downtown Vancouver several times this past year at high-end properties, I found Prestige to be overpriced for what it offers. That said, there aren't a lot of decent options in Nelson to choose from. The restaurant is really lacking in both service and food quality. Servers are nice enough, but we had to ask both mornings for our coffee to be re-filled and for condiments to be brought to the table. If you get breakfast vouchers with your room, do not eat from the buffet. Make sure to order breakfast off the menu. We did the buffet on the first morning at 8am and the hot dishes were cold and soggy already. The second morning when we ordered off the menu, food was at least hot and a little more tasty. I would say that the food at lunch was also average at best. Just be aware that if you are particular about eating out, you will be happier at some of the restaurants in town.

Thank you for your feedback – we appreciate the time you took to post your comments. The Prestige Lakeside Resort does feature suites with a separate bedroom from living space that would certainly be ideal for families. Our Guest Services Agents are always happy to discuss these options at the time of your reservation. We are sorry to hear that you were dissatisfied with the restaurant. We have passed along your comments to Ric’s Lounge & Grill. Although our restaurants are run by 3rd party operators, we would be pleased to put you in touch with restaurant management. We have sent you a private message and invite you to send your contact information to us directly.

I have stayed many times over the years. Rooms are spacious as are bathrooms. Each closet has a cupboard in it which leaves little room to hang clothes. Pay extra to get a lakeview room; they are worth it.
The main and ongoing issue is the restaurant. Staff are not well trained. The food is mediocre and expensive. Were the food any good this restaurant with its location would do great. Not likely unfortunately.

Having navigated that shambles which is the Prestige chain's reservation system, the stay itself was excellent. Absolutely outstanding location on the water (though a lakeview room is a must). Staff first rate. Examples? At check-in we mentioned we would be going to the local museum & art gallery the next day and they immediately produced half-off admission coupons. We mentioned an interest in the heritage tram and they immediately produced information and a schedule. We asked about the hotel restaurant and they made us reservations. That kind of thing. And it was the same from all the hotel staff right through the stay. The room itself was a good size, quiet, with a (small) balcony from which to enjoy the view of lake and mountains. Although Nelson has a number of interesting restaurants we were content to eat all our meals at the hotel's (a Ric's Grill) and were not disappointed. If you just need a place to sleep for a night and have all your business up in the downtown area maybe stay at the Best Western and save a few dollars. Otherwise this is the place.

Room Tip: A room with a lake view is a must.
