Owner description: Little Qualicum Falls Provincial Park straddles the scenic Little Qualicum River, west of Parksville, where impressive waterfalls cascade and plummet down a rocky gorge in a beautiful forest setting. Perhaps the most magnificent park on Vancouver Island, Little Qualicum Falls incorporates the entire southern shore of Cameron Lake, adjacent to MacMillan Provincial Park and the awesome Cathedral Grove Rainforest. Cameron Lake is bordered by steep mountains: Mt. Wesley to the north and Mt. Arrowsmith to the south.

We made a trip out to here to see the falls which we hear have some good walking trails about them. We were turned away at the gate by a park ranger due to an "incident". Disappointing but nothing we could do about it. We later saw on the local news a teenage boy had fallen while rock climbing and had been killed there. Such a pity for one so young, but a reminder to all, these area's they are still wild and can be dangerous.

Loved every minute, even a dip in the river, and the bridges felt safe and the paths were well cared for. We took 6 children under 8 years old who loved it too.

Last week yet another tragedy at one of our beautiful waterfalls. A young man died here. Please enjoy beautiful British Colmbia but be aware that dozens of people die every year in our lakes, rivers and ocean.Mostly people do not see the danger. Stay behind the fencing and enjoy a great walk around the river and falls. Spectacular especially in winter when water levels are high.

Another stop and short break whilst staying for a week near Parksville.

These falls offer a number of walking routes, including a circuit covering the two major parts of these falls - crossing over walkways over the falls. You can choose some vigorous walks but we found the circuit over the two falls relaxing and enjoyable. Take a picnic and camera.

Very relaxing, and well worth going to - nearby you can visit Coombs and the 'Goats on the Roof' market.

The tranquility of the coastal forest amid the constant background of cascading water is sure to appeal to people of all ages. A quick visit for short hiking or longer explorations can be complemented with overnight camping.
