We have stayed here twice now and plan on going back again. We go in the off season and enjoy the 3 for 2 nights. Clean, comfortable, great staff. Love the fireplace, view, comfy bed and full kitchen. A nice escape for a great price.

I was just thrilled when I walked into unit 18A with my husband. It was my birthday and when I noticed the BBQ on the patio, i knew I wouldn't be cooking all weekend. Lovely full size kitchen with a view of the ocean from the dining room table. Fantastic wood burning fireplace which just made my nights perfect. We will certainly be back to stay in this wonderful well managed Resort again. Thank you for a most enjoyable weekend, even if it was raining. Oh the deers and the robins made my day.

Room Tip: The studio unit has a wonderful view of the ocean and the BBQ is right out on the patio. I think th...

We recently stayed in Madrona Beach Resort for a long weekend. We managed to get a good rate in off season, for a room with ocean view & kitchenette.

The suite itself was comfortable - upstairs unit with 1 bedroom/bathroom, sitting/eating area and kitchenette (no oven). It was nothing fancy - a bit run down....not extremely clean, but acceptable.
Towels had holes in them & some dishes in the kitchen needed to be cleaned before we used them. The bathroom had a constant high pitched sound coming from the toilet - it went away when we flushed & came back minutes later - likely needed new gasket in tank.

I wouldn't have called this a resort, as there were no resort amenities and no restaurant or eatery on site. It was more like a small apartment. Also, we didn't get maid service for new towels after the first day as we didn't leave our towels outside the suite - nobody had told us this was necessary, we didn't find out until we checked out after two days....luckily there was enough towels in the room. Also, the bed was way too soft - made us roll into the middle.....and gave me a sore lower back after two nights......they need to replace the mattress soon!

We managed to get up early enough the second morning to walk out to low tide & see the sunrise - this was a real treat....so it seems the location was perfect for us, so beautiful!

Would we stay here again - yes, as the price was right for us. However, you might be able to find something a bit more upscale nearby if you wanted to spend a bit more money.

Room Tip: Ask about getting clean towels delivered to the room when you check in.

Looking forward to my next trip up to Madrona. In the off season they offer 3 nights for the price of 2. Units are always clean, functional and you can't beat the beach. Bring something to BBQ in case the power goes out, which happens only occasionally. Not a resort with a restaurant or big facilities but there are plenty of restaurants around at other resorts or in Parksville to go to. Perfect to cook or BBQ a simple meal.

Room Tip: Best value is the one bedroom but the studio suites have a fire place.

The Madrona has been our go to place for family trips for over 5 yrs. Its location is unquestionably perfect (as our the other places on the strip of Resort Drive). When we go we rent a ridge level unit. Our group size allows for us to take both the A & B units. If we go w/ a smaller group - take the A unit. It's worth the extra that you pay - just to have the grass patio in the back for the view and the kids to play. The kitchen and the space in the A unit is much better than the B unit. This isn't your service oriented place, though the staff is friendly and helpful. This is like being at home. Cook and clean up which suits us fine. We've stayed in different units each time we've been there and here's the downer - they are not all the same. There is a great deal of variation between the updating, the bedding, the sofa bed, and the appliances/quality of utensils in the units. Using the word "resort" is taking a liberty. If you are using the pull outs - especially the unit we were in on this last stay - be sure to put your lightest member of the family on it. Horrible for an adult. It is a beautiful place but it really needs some quality control and upgrading to be called that. The there is tennis court that doubles for ball hockey play. The racquets that are provided are dollar store quality. Bring your own if you want to get in a good game. There is a basketball court and a small playground area. The playground area we used a lot when our family was younger. They do have skim boards and beach toys for loan which is appreciated to sav eyou a trip to the store or to save you from packing a lot from home. They no longer have wood for sale for the fire pits on the beach which you had to buy in previous years. Rathtrevor Beach is a fantastic place to stay. Not saying that I wouldn't stay again, but I wouldn't hesitate to research out a different spot.

Room Tip: Booking an 'A' unit is worth the extra $ even if you are just a couple or small family for t...

Our family stayed at the Madrona for 3 nights in August. This was the first time that we visited Parksville and because it was a peak season, we chose the Madrona because the prices were within reason.

Location wise, the resort was quit accessible to downtown Parksville and there were plenty of places to eat and grocery shop within driving distance.

For the room itself, we stayed on the ridge level, one-bedroom ocean view which provided an excellent view of the water but was really quite the trek down long ramps to the beach with kids and equipment in tow (driving everything down to the beach worked out the best for us in the end). We had a full sized fridge, microwave, and 4 burner oven in our suite, but we were told this suite had a "larger kitchen" than the other units, so ask ahead of time if you want to do a lot of cooking or store cold foods. Oh, and there is no dish washing machine either so if you cook, be prepared to hand wash everything. Coin laundry was available at the front office.

There was no daily cleaning service either so you had to bring out your dirty towels by 10:30am to have them taken away and new ones returned to you (they actually didn't do this on one of the days and we had to bring the towels to the office ourselves to get new ones). Needless to say, if you needed your sheets refreshed you had to contact the front office to get that done (I think they said if you stay longer than a week, your sheets get changed at the end of the week).

As far as noise level is concerned, it was tolerable up on the ridge for heavy sleepers. The temperature was in the high 20's so we left the windows open at night since there was no A/C. You could hear noise from people partying on the beach at night, but I imagine that the noise would be worse if you were in the beach level units. They also water the lawns at night somewhere between 12:30am-1:30am up on the ridge and the sprinklers near our suite must have been hitting some siding because that was very noisy.

Other than that, my kids enjoyed playing in the outdoor play areas and in their tennis courts where they had tennis as well as hockey equipment.

Overall, would we stay here again? We definitely enjoyed Parksville, and will return to the area in the future. We'll probably stay at a different resort next time however.

Room Tip: - ask about the kitchen size of your suite if you want to cook - Bring shampoo & soap!! You get...

Unfortunately, the people in the unit below us had a stereo blasting both nights we were there. We picked this place as it is a great family resort so we thought it would be quiet as it was last stay, so it was disappointing to not hear the waves and the birds but instead listen to the hum of the bass for 2 nights. The unit was very clean, however, the sheets on the sofa bed did not look as though they had been changed and when I pulled back the sheets to get into the bed in the bedroom the first thing I found was a black hair. These sheets also did not look fresh. The morning we were leaving, the maids knocked on our door at 10 (check out is at 11 a.m. which I verified with them). We were still packing to leave when they knocked on the door AGAIN at 10:30. If check out is at 11, please don't keep knocking before that to see if guest have left yet - we felt rushed. The resort is good value for money, a great place for kids and in a spectacular location but I'm not sure I'd stay there again.
