Madrona Beach Resort

I have an idea that Madrona would have higher ratings if it wasn't stuck in Specialty Lodgings (for whatever reason). The 3 nights-for-2 is an incredible deal during the off-season. We had one of the beach-front units this time, but have previously stayed in one of the single-level Ridge units. Re a previous reviewer - if you stay in a unit where there are people above you, you will likely get noise. That's one reason why these units are a lower price.

The beachfront unit had upgraded appliances, including a dishwasher ( a change from last time) and flat-front TVs. There's no restaurant or pool on the premises, but anyone who did any amount of research ahead of time would know this.

I truly don't think that any facility is obligated to provide accomodations for family pets. It does increase their costs, and there will always be some guests who are critically allergic and must stay in a room where they can be assured that no cat or dog has ever resided.

This is a good place to stay, very convenient to other locations. However, having said that, more and more places are dog friendly, and this is one of those places that need to change their policy - most families now have a four legged family member and this place needs to allow pets in at least some of their accommodations.....

#1: CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. That's really big in my books
#2: The absolute, knock-out view.
#3: Love standing at the kitchen counter and seeing that view. Love the full kitchens in the A units too.
#4. The ocean. The tides, the water lapping at the shore at night. The moonlight on the ocean. The birds on the ocean. The miles of clean sand on the beach.
#5: Quiet. When everyone is tucked in for the night, it's quiet.
#6: The manager. Knowing that there is someone knowledgeable about every aspect of the property.

We had the unfortunate experience of staying at the Madrona Beach Resort. It wasn't a restful spot due, in part, to the fact that on the first floor unit it sounded like thundering elephants were staying upstairs and that made it difficult to get any rest. The staff also wanted to charge for a bag of ground coffee (after the first one, on the first day) and when i complained was told "this is a resort, not a hotel." Our friends stayed in an upstairs unit and it was dreary with worn furniture and an uncomfortable bed. The staff was also very unaccomodating. The set-up is for families with young children and bikes and is more like camping in a building. Although there was a fireplace the room didn't even come with one stick of wood: that had to be purchased at the office. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Madrona had been highly recommended to us by a co-worker.

My husband and I had spent our honeymoon at Tigh na Mara, many years ago, and had brought our family back for summer vacations. As well I had spent summer vacations at Grey Crest as a child. The draw to Parksville is of course the beautiful beaches, warm water, and luckily awesome weather every time we've been.
Our first stay at Madrona was last summer. We were fortunate enough to get a beach unit. Our children are now teens, but being able to sit on our deck and keep an eye on the kids was great. Of course, leaving the patio doors open in the master bedroom upstairs while we slept was so serene. Listening to the tide come in and the gentle breeze was heavenly. Early morning walks on the beach made me feel like a kid again. We will be returning again this year. It is a much anticipated holiday that we would like to continue for many years to come. If you enjoy beaches, this is the place for you.

Our family has been going to Madrona for 4 years now.. every year it gets better. The location is perfect - right on the beach. We stay at the condos up top and the views are beautiful. Every morning you wake up to sunshine and the tide way out... The condos are nice and family friendly. There is lots to do (tennis, playgrounds etc) and the staff are friendly.

The prices are on par with what you pay for high season in a resort town and very much worth it.
