This place is a little odd. Seat yourself but half the tables were reserved. To be fair they were very busy. Got a table after a rigoramorale but once in we got our order in and after a considerable wait were rewarded with an excellent meal.

Service was friendly and prompt. Food was fresh and tasty (steak/mushroom pie and fisherman's pie). Good selection of beers. Reasonable pricing.

We visited the Black Goose Inn with the recommendation of the desk clerk at our nearby condo. It was as authentic an English Pub as we have seen, and we have eaten in pubs in the UK. The steak and mushroom pie and Fish and Chips were excellent. The beer was good too.

Victoria isn't the only spot with British flavour and charm......check out the Black Goose Pub.
Hidden behind Beach Acres......and the surrounding forest.....once you enter the historic lodge which now houses the Pub...you'll be thrown back into English country Inn-like setting.
The old lodge is the attraction here along with very traditional brews and ciders. A nice selection of ales, stouts, and Vancouver Island cider.
I only wish the traditional Pub fare was up to the beers. I found the food a little unimaginative and lacking flavour. Fish & chips were okay, Bangers and mash were exactly that - mashed potato and sauages. Boring but satisfying if you love British fare. I would love to see the menu offer some more exciting food along with the old favourites.

Still, I loved the setting and lodge and would take friends there, but mostly for the beer. Very cozy bar and really friendly staff who make you welcome. Go for the Beer on a warm summer night, stroll down for the views of waterfront....or go on a chilly wet night and snuggle in a corner by the fireplace.

cheers....Islandboy
