“Nice and relaxing but becoming dated..”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 30, 2012

I have stayed here a few times over the last 10 years. This time we stayed in an ocean view suite which had a nice view of the water. The room has a nice soaker tub beside the bed which is very relaxing. The service that I had at the front desk was attentive and that was the only interaction I had with the hotel staff. The one thing I noticed though is that the room always becoming dated. It had a full size kitchen but the appliances were old and the oven got really hot to touch when we used it. There is free wireless but it dropped out quite a bit it and when it did work, it was very slow. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were nice. The TV was a flat screen but it took quite a lot of effort to change the channel. If this place wants to command the big dollars, they will need to do some renovations to make it a more modern experience.

The worst part of my experience was at the end. We checked out at 10:15 and decided to go to the restaurant for breakfast. We arrived to find that we could only have the thirty dollar buffet and could not order from a menu as menu service ended at 10:00. This felt like a cash grab to me as most people would check out then go for food. There was no other option as we were informed.

I will likely not pro back until this place either updates or lowers their rates.

Room Tip: Ocean view rooms are old

The room was clean... but the highlight for us was the spa/bath. We did the spa and tapas and it was fantastic (and way out of the box for us!) We were there last year - the TV was an old tube style, but I think they were updating. They offer yoga outside on the edge of the ocean -great location

It is okay but nothing special.
Typical hotel room, nice but not great.
We got in late and the grounds are super dark, we got lost trying to find our place and got lost trying to get out, we were wishing for a flash light to get to our door.
I am very unhappy with their phone service to book hotel and/or spa.
Very difficult to get a real person on the phone, you leave a message and turn around time to return calls is hours. I have complained about this many times.

This is a favourite spot to escape our busy, stressful lives and just "hang out" for a couple of days.
It is worth spending a little extra to be on the ocean side of the resor, as the views are magnificent and you are so close to the beach. For the first time, we stayed in a lower-level suite as opposed to top floor - mistake! The soundproofing is poor, and though other guests were fairly considerate we could still hear everything. Also, it can be very dark. The decor is quite rustic ( which is fitting for the location) and being upgraded, which is a good thing. The the suites are spacious and comfortable, cozy and warm, with great mattresses and good quality bedding and towels. We found the kitchen supplies barely adequate to make our own meals/ coffee and tea ( check the cupboards before you start cooking) , but the office would have provided what we were lacking. The in-house formal restaurant is excellent if a bit pricey, and the grotto and spa have wonderful services at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and efficient and work very hard to make your stay a good one. In summer it is paradise! We will keep going back, even in wintertime.

Room Tip: Choose a top floor, outside suite if the resort is busy , though there are no elevators on the ocean...

I recently stayed there with my friends for a long anticipated reunion. We were sorely disappointed with our stay. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. We had the tapas in the Grotto Spa, the food was HORRIBLE!! We were not seated until half an hour after our reservation, the tapas that were brought to our table was either dried out, cold and one dish was rank!! When we complained about our meal to the staff when we checked out we were told that there was nothing they could do!! I will never stay or eat there again and do not recommend it at all!

We stayed two nights in the Jedediah Lodge. The actual resort is beautiful to look at - Log buildings, trees everywhere, beautiful beach, etc. We had two passes for the Mineral pool - amazing! What a cool experience! The only complaint we had was that our room was really rundown and in need of a face lift - large stains on carpets, etc. If the room had been maintained a bit better, I feel that it would be totally worth the price.

We stayed in a cabin and the bathroom is old, the shower for midgets and cheap plastic tub with a horrible curtain. No ventilation or appropriate lighting in the washroom. Kitchen tools are halfway broken, the kettle does not turn off automatically. The walls in the rooms are not finished and sealed.
We paid almost $1000.00 in the grotto spa for treatments that should have been identical but turned out very different. We couldn't use the mineral pool on the same day as we got the last appointment of the day for our facials and asked to have access the following day and got refused. Use is only available at the same day of treatment. What a bummer!
We paid an extra of $30.00 per day for the dogs and didn't even get 2 dog feeders or towels or blankets.
The bedroom lacks an extra blanket and it is cold in the winter and to keep the heat going with open window is so bad.
The floors are not getting washed, the fireplace is not cleaned, some garbage bins not cleaned, the the sofa cover doesn't get changed or cleaned.
The coffee is not a brand and the tea is only black tea Red Rose - so cheap.
The fireplace has only one metal fireplace tool without heat protected handle, no glove. No kindling or fire starter, no wood at the cabin.
For $100 less you get a three times larger and well equipped cabin with beautiful bathrooms and jetted tub in Tofino at Crystal Cove.

Thank you Eicapa for taking the time to post your comments. Clearly you are not happy and I am sorry we did not meet your expectations. While it is not my intention to be argumentative, I feel it necessary to address a few points from your letter...

Our Rustic Cottages are all now 20-30 years of age and while we have made many renovations (flooring, stain, roofs, fireplaces, furnishings, counters, dishwashers, bedding (mattresses, pillows, sheets and duvets), lighting, flatscreen TV's, appliances, etc) this process is never finished and we have not yet redone our Rustic Cottage bathrooms. They do all have proper ventilation, however, as well as commercial kettles with the auto-shut off feature and sealed walls.

Our spa treatments are customized based on the medical and personal information provided by each guest prior to their treatments. We do strongly recommend booking spa treatments well in advance to avoid disappointment as some treatments do book up.

There is a one-time, $30 pet fee regardless of how many pets are in the cottage. This is for additional cleaning prior to the next arrival. We do offer a pet package that includes a bowl, towel, toy, some treats, etc for your pets enjoyment. If we know in advance there will be more than one pet, we will happily provide more than one pet package. If we don't know in advance, these are also available on request.

There are extra blankets and pillows in the blanket box in the living room. More can also be delivered on request. Our floors and fireplaces are cleaned for every new arrival, also the futon cover. Firestarters are supplied as is complimentary firewood (at stations located throughout the cottages).

We make a point of supporting local BC/Vancouver Island businesses whenever possible. This means local artwork and jewellery in our gift shop, local custom-made furniture in our cottages and our coffee is also from a Vancouver Island company who have been in business for 40 years.

Warm regards,
Jim H
