“Ocean Trails in August”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We just finished staying a week in Ocean Trails. The 2 bedroom unit was very large compared to other places in Parksville. However, the unit needs a kitchen update. The utensils are limited and the refrigerator made loud, unusual noises that were very bothersome when trying to sleep.
Having no maid service is fine but you would think they would leave cleaning supplies for the bathroom, especially when there are 5 people using it.
They were offering a special for August, stay 5 nights and get 1 night in the off season free.
You had to be careful how you booked in order to get the deal. We stayed six nights and did not get it because we booked on line instead of phoning.

Room Tip: You are not allowed to choose a room, other than the number of bedrooms.

Stayed in a one bedroom condo for five nights in July. Well kept although a few updated kitchen appliances/utensels would have been nice, (everthing stuck in the frying pan due to it being totally scratched, kettle did not shut off automatically and unable to use toaster for bagels). They got the job done with a few struggles. We understand that all the units are individually owned so not sure what others have. Not much to look at out on your deck, except trees. In a quiet area so no problem sleeping except the noise of the ravens in the mornings. Thank goodness it was cool when we stayed there. Ours had electric heat with no air conditioning (just a pedestal fan). Washer and dryer worked fine but a small set of instructions at or near these would have made it a little easier to figure out. Walking trail was just nothing more than a grass strip along the perimeter fence that would take you through everones "backyard". I wouldn't have called it a trail. Didn't try the pool or hot tub so can't comment. You must walk down quite a few stairs/ramp in between other properties to get down to the beach. We weren't interested in the beach so won't comment on it. There were lots of logs etc washed up though. Wifi worked fine and was free. Lots of tv channels to chose from with nice wall mount unit. Bedroom was spacious with ample closet and drawer space. Appeared to have ample parking for visitors. No restaurant on site but there is decent one within walking distance. Check in and out was no problem and people on the desk were extremely nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Check for Air Conditioning if travelling in hot weather.

My family and I invaded this resort/hotel in the middle of May for a week and were pleasantly surprised at what we found. We had a 3 bedroom condo, while not located directly on the beach, it was very close to it with an access ramp. The unit was very spacious, 3 bedrooms, full kitchen with cleaning supplies and every kitchen utensil you could think of, 2 full bathrooms, a dining area, living room with large screen TV and upstairs a family room with a sofa bed and another TV. The master bedroom was wonderful, very large with a lower sitting room area, ideal for curling up with a good book, 2 large closets and a super comfortable bed. Outside there was a patio dining set for 6 six. (BBQ's are also available). The resort was spotless clean with lots of green areas and situated amongst beautiful towering cedar trees. It had a family-friendly pool and hot tub area and next to the pool was a children's playground, with all kinds of wonderful climbing things. All of us were in agreement over the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff here, they were very accommodating to any of our requests. The cost was very reasonable for what we received and we will certainly be returning here and recommending it highly to other people that are travelling to Vancouver Island.

Room Tip: Request a unit close to the beach access

My sister and I stayed in one of their 1 bedroom units. It was so nice to have privacy and a full kitchen at our disposal. The grounds are beautifully kept and just a very short walk to the shores of the Pacific ocean. Very clean and very comfortable bed. There is a lot to do if you are traveling with children - playground and a lovely pool. We stayed for 2 nights at 119.00 per night plus taxes etc. The hotels I looked at in town were asking a good deal more than that and you would be stuck in a room. Ours was just like a small apartment. We were extremely pleased with our decision to stay there and would do so again in a heartbeat! Good job Ocean Trails!

Room Tip: The closer to the beach the less traffic there is.

We live on the Island and wanted to go somewhere which didn't require taking the ferry, so we went online to see what was available on the Victoria Day long weekend. It was important that we find a place that was child friendly as we were taking our 3 grandchildren with us. I went to the Parksville accomodations online and Ocean Trails Resort seemed to be the most accomodating for children, with it's location, room sizes, pool and playground. We were greeted at the front desk as though they were really happy to have us there. They were quick to check us in and have us on our way to our room. The children had a wonderful time down at the ocean while the tide was out, exploring for hours. We were close to Parksville so were able to spend a couple of hours at the mini golf and bumper boats, then close enough to drive back to go to a movie . We both said as we left on checkout day, that we would definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you're travelling with children, the back of the property is close to the child oriented acti...

Although this property is not actually on the beach it does have easy, quick beach access and the bonus of not having to listen to beach-goers all evening and until late in the night. The grounds for this resort are spacious and very nicely maintained with a great pool area and most units have space to barbque right outside. Ir is really nice to have a washer/dryer in the unit especially in summer when white or light clothes can get dirty so quickly. The beach access gives out onto the spaciousness of Rathtrevor where you can walk forever with no fear of incoming tides (but you do have to be aware of them) and beach walking can take 2 - 4 hours a day if you want. Super for families or if you just want a quick getaway - and price is amazingly affordable.

Room Tip: Upper rooms hav spacious balconies but lower rooms have barbeques right outside the unit.

This is a very nice place to stay for a few days, we went in May and it was very quiet and peaceful at that time.
Very surprised at the spacious condo we had, everything we needed was there, it was clean and it looked new. I would return there again. The staff at reception were welcoming and friendly. Keep up the good work, we like to support our Island businesses.
