The resort was a bit disappointing. The beach was not close by and not easily accessible. The rooms were very hot and poorly ventilated and the bed was uncomfortable. It was good to get away, but was not luxurious or ocean front.

We have just had a one night stay at this resort and the first thing to say is that it is not a resort in any meaningful way. If you want a meal that you didn’t prepare yourself, you have to go elsewhere; if you want to swim you have to go elsewhere; if you want beautiful grounds you better go elsewhere because the landscaping here consists of undeveloped areas, under construction areas and lots of fencing to keep people out of the yet-to-be-worked-on areas. When the pool is finished it is going to be an old-fashioned rectangular pool, not particularly attractive.
However, we knew from the website that the pool wasn’t finished and that there is no restaurant, so we were prepared for those things. We booked a “Studio Suite” and were given #234-B. When I called to make the reservation the one thing I asked for was a room that did not overlook the parking lot. Guess what 234-B overlooks – that’s right: the parking lot! The “suite” is a normal, although slightly small, hotel room with a kitchenette. It is very dark because there is a tree very close to the window which blocks almost all light. It was OK, just OK, for a one-night stay but would have been too depressing for a longer stay. Trees should be saved, of course, so maybe the window should have been somewhere else.
One thing that was a little off-putting upon arrival was a bag of garbage outside the door of the room. Did the housekeeping staff forget it? It was still there when we checked out the next morning. There is also no safe in the room. It is not a cheapy hotel so we think a safe is a reasonable expectation. The TV was very amusing; it is the smallest TV we have seen in years and gave us a good laugh. The room décor is bland – there is nothing wrong with it, but it lacks charm. Bathroom hint: you will have to bring your own shower cap because none is provided.
Good points – huge shower, quick access to downtown Parksville, and the property looks good from the street.
All in all, it was adequate, but not worth a return visit.

Room Tip: Ask carefully when you book about the view or lack thereof and the amount of light the room gets.

My husband and I first stayed at the Sunrise Ridge on our honeymoon. It was so great we decided to come back on our anniversary. And the 2nd time didn't let us down.

Our room was as gorgeous as we remembered. Full kitchen with all the amenities, deep soaker tub, large balcony that we could see the ocean from, pillow top bed, bbq, washer, dryer etc. They had thought of everything we could need! The décor is clean, modern and high end, which is just up our alley and it had high vaulted ceilings that made the area seem even more spacious. We had a 1 bedroom suite, and it had two bathrooms.

The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful and even the housekeeping smiled and said hello as we passed them.

The grounds are still under construction but it looked like the pool was almost finished. The hotel did offer that we could go to a pool at a nearby resort and they offered us gym facilities at a gym in town. We took them up on the gym and it was awesome.

The only negative that I could find, and it was really a minor one, is that they curtains they have are white and they let in a lot of light early in the morning. It would be nice to have some darker drapes to close to keep out the morning sun.

We will be back Sunrise Ridge!

We stayed for 2 nights in June, part of our weekend away from home. This is our first stay at Sunrise Ridge Waterfront Resort. Very clean, peaceful, very quiet( we stayed over the weekend), however we did not like the beach. There was no sitting areas at the beach, mostly rocks, if we wanted to walk on the beach we had to access the beach from different location. Would stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: pool under construction

We stayed here as part of an week long trip to Vancouver Island, fortunately only for one night. This property is definitely not a resort but a time share rental.

We felt very mislead by the photos and information on Sunrise Ridge's website that showed seemingly beach side sitting that was actually in someone's private villa. There is no seating at the beach and not much of a beach at all. We also read about the BBQ facilities on their site and actually called the morning of our upcoming stay to confirm before we bought groceries and were told we would have a patio seating and a BBQ. The unit we were given didn't have either, the individual on the desk did give us another unit that had a patio and told us we could use the BBQ in the adjoining unit but that we were not to use the unit otherwise.

We also arrived to find ourselves in construction site as they are building a pool and hot tub. When we mentioned this to the front desk staff, they said if we had booked directly that we would have been told but it certainly isn't what you want to wake up to is the sound of construction during your vacation.

I would not recommend this property and I believe they have a long way to go to representing themselves professionally.

Dear Kath_R0n
I want to thank you for posting your review here on TripAdvisor. Our units are fractionally owned fully furnished condo units that we look after and rent out on behalf of our owners. The suites are well stocked, and all suites with full kitchens do have a bbq and patio furniture on the deck or balcony. I apologize for the misinformation given to regarding the bbq in your studio unit when you called prior to your arrival. The staff member in question was fairly new, and was mistaken when she told you that you would have a bbq facilities on your deck. Once we were made aware of the error, the guest services agent felt she was making amends by offering you the use of the bbq next door. I understand that you booked your unit through an on line booking site.
I feel badly that you felt mislead, but we honestly have not had anyone comment that they thought there were these facilities included in the type of unit that you reserved, so I will be looking at the wording to see if changes could be made to make it more clear.
Regarding the beach area, some of the pictures you see are actually the deck of what was our sales office, and is similar to the waterfront villas which are up on the bluff overlooking Craig Bay. Although they are owned fractionally like the other units on site, they are also available for rental purposes, not someone's private villa at all. The amount of beach and sand is dependant on the tide of course, and although it is rocky at the top, when the tide is lower, the sand will go out for about a mile, and there is plenty of beach.
We do our very best here to be honest and upfront about any challenges that may face guests when they arrive. When taking a reservation here at the resort, we always inform potential guests of construction, as well as that we do not have amenities on site and the options around that, and are very excited about these facilities being available on site in the near future.
All that being said, it is our intent to have happy guests leaving, as it does not in any way benefit us to mislead and have people leave unhappy. A fantastic experience by our guests is what keeps them coming back, and those are the goals we set for everyone.
I would be more than happy to speak to you regarding your stay. I am available Monday to Friday here at the resort, and would ask that you call me at 1-877-977-8669 to see if there is a way to bring you back for the experience you should have had here.
Thank you again for your comments. We take these seriously.

Sincerely
Robynne Shaw
General Manager
