“Lovely but fell short a few places.”
Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

This is a nice place. The grounds are very pretty and well maintained. The hosts are very accommodating and they make a nice breakfast available. The rooms are very clean and the bathtub jets were great to relax in.
There were a few things here that didn't work for us. Firstly, the rooms need updating. It was a bit like staying at my Grandma's ;)
There is no play set for kids, no hot tub or pool. There is really nothing here for kids at all. I would not recommend staying here if you have younger children. There are no mini fridges in the rooms or coffee/tea and no guest kitchen so if you want a drink or snack you're out of luck.
It's very affordable though and the breakfast is included and yummy.

This is a mixed review. First the good. Lovely grounds. Shady spots with benches on which to sit and read. Nice lounge with pool table. Parking is great. Hosts are helpful and friendly. Rooms are well appointed. Beds are great. Breakfast was first class. WiFi is free and fast.

Now the not so good. The rooms are different sizes. Our first night the rooms was quite small – adequate, but small. It was on the side of the building, and with a widow open we could hardly hear the highway that runs by the front. The second night we had a front room. Twice as large, but the highway noise with an open window was obtrusive. You’d have to be a sound sleeper to put up with it. But at 10 PM it got much more quiet, so we left the window open and were awakened at 5 AM. Rooms have jet tubs, but the water pressure in the shower was gentle at best. Breakfast room is small - the second night they were full, and we couldn't eat until 9:15. Not a problem for us, but it might be if you're on a schedule.

But the real problem was heat. Port Alberni is hot in the summer. When we checked in at 3 PM it was 34 C, or 95 F. The room was 28 C (86 F). There is no central air conditioning. There is a unit in each room, and it cooled the small room adequately, but struggled to cool the larger room. You have to use the remote – the buttons on the unit don’t do anything. Make sure the snowflake symbol is showing, or the compressor is not on – the fan is just moving air around. (My wife discovered that feature.)The fan has three positions – loud, louder, and WHAT DID YOU SAY? My advice is to ask the hosts to turn on the AC an hour before you expect to check in, and then put the fan on high with the temp set at 68 F at 8 PM and do something somewhere else, and then turn the fan off when going to bed.

In sum, this would be a perfect place in spring, fall and winter. In the summer, be prepared to work around the heat.

Room Tip: Read the review and discuss which kind of room you want with the hosts when you make the reservation...

We stayed here overnight on the route to Tofino and weren't disappointed. It's been said before but Tom and Marla really are super hosts and our room was spacious and clean. They made us very welcome and a big thank you to Tom for helping me to identify where the gas tank lever was inside the car as the hire company had omitted to tell me.
Continental type breakfast but you can have as much as you want.
Marla had recommended a good place to eat in Port Alberni for dinner and again the advice was spot on.
Nice spacious grounds and lots of car parking space.
I am a big fan of good b&bs and my advice to anyone is forget hotels in Port Alberni-stay here.

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the main entrance and car park ,was great

The owners are delightful, very polite and helpful in every way. They make you feel at home.
The room was ok, it was very noisy because of the traffic, and couldn't really make it dark so the light was waking us up early. The portable a/c unit worked well but was quite noisy.

This is the nicest bed and breakfast I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Our room was beautiful and clean. Tom and Marla think of every little detail to make it perfect. It is like a 5 star hotel in a cozy warm setting. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Tom was left all alone to manage the operation while his wife, Marlawas out of town on family business. We had flown in fro Alberta to go on a trip of I lifetime, a salmon fishing charter which was run by Doug Lindores of Sliver Salmon Charters. Our time frame was tight.
Tom looked after my wife and I like we were the only two people in the house.
All our needs were seen to. This was an excellent B&B experience, and the bed's were marvelous.
We enjoyed every moment and would not hesitate to recommend this operation to anyone looking for a worry free stay in Port Alberni.

Room Tip: Pick any as they were all perfect

Two of us stayed at Cedar Wood Lodge after our fishing guide recommended it. Not have spent anytime in Port Alberni I expected it to be a typical ho hum roadside motel. How wrong was I. Walking in the Lobby we saw a beautifully decorated inn with antiques throughout. We were greeted by Tom who could not have been more friendly and helpful. The rooms are spacious and quite luxurious far more than what we expected .We were only going to stay one night but decided to stay a second night. Would definitely like to stay again so that I could enjoy the Inn and not have to get out of bed at 5:00 am.
