“Wine tasting and an education all in one”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

I heard about this winery years ago but didn't have a chance to visit until this summer. The tasting room is small and unassuming but matches any tasting room in a commercialized winery. We spent over an hour tasting the numerous variety of wines, with a passionate description and history of each delivered by Orval. Well worth a visit. The only downside is that there we needed to stand the entire time - a chance to sit (like leaning up against the bar) would have been a little more comfortable. Leave the kids at home so that you can take your time to enjoy. Prices were very reasonable for a small scale winery. Certain for a return visit next summer.

“Nice wine, and informative”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

We had tasted some of their wine at a friends house, and felt it was worth the trip to Port Alberni
to get some for ourselves. The owner goes above and beyond with information about their wine
and the wine names, which was very interesting. Their wines are very tasty, well priced, and not
high falutin like some of the island places. So we buy a case of wine, are sitting in the car, do
the math, then go back for another. Just love the come and taste policy, no strings attached. If you like it buy it. Unfortunately they were out of a couple makes, so will have to remember to get
there earlier next year. Good job! Time permitting, we would do the steam train ride in.

“Wonderfully Quaint”
Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

A great little gem of the Alberni Valley. The couple of times that I've been they have been wonderfully friendly, quite knowledgeable and very passionate. It's neat that many of the wines have names in reference to the area. Free tastings. There's even special steam train rides that go out to the winery. Worth a visit.

“A little quirky oasis”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

I drove out to the winery to pick up a bottle of wine. The two guys out there were filled with the right mix of humour and irony. They have a passion for their wine, for doing it right. And I really enjoyed the Wranglette. Tasting was free, and the wine itself is affordable. This is not a posh winery, but a good working winery.

“Friendly and informative”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stopped by here for a visit on our way back to Nanaimo after the long drive from Tofino. It was a great rest stop to get a break from the long drive, the hillside covered in vines is lovely, and it is quite picturesque. The folks there were very warm and friendly and quite informative. I have been to many wineries and this visit stood out from all the others due to the great personal service. The wines were nice, there were quite a few to try and a few unique ones that also made it a special stop. I would recommend a visit to anyone going by who either enjoys fine wine, or is interested in knowing more about wines and the wine making process.
