“Fish and Chips…A religious experience!”

Congratulations tripadvisor reviewers….based soley on your recommendations our family decided to stop in for lunch on our drive through to Tofino. Bare Bones..you did not disappoint! Set in a old church this quirky lunch spot serves up some of best fish and chips on the west coast. Menu is perfectly simple…your choice of fish (cod, halibut, salmon)..your choice of batter (beer or panko) or deliciously grilled. Probably the hardest decision you'll make is how many pieces to order! Portions are ample, served with endless fries and a choice of coleslaw or caesar salad. Service was impeccable! We loved it so much we stopped for a second time on our way home a week later! Just a note- we dined with our 2 children and an alternative to ordering off the kids menu is to order a 2-piece to share (more economical, same portions).

“Delicious fish and chips”

Don't pass this place by on your way through Port Alberni. So many choices (but not too many). Have been there a few times and the quality is always tops. Servers do a great job and the portions are not small. Great prawns also.

Located in an old church and parking just outside the door.

“Excellent experience!”

Stopped on our way back from the West Coast, with a craving for GOOD FIsh and Chips. Bare Bones did not disappoint! Who needs tarter sauce when the beer-battered cod is flavourful and moist. Just perfect. Salads were just OK, but we loved the fish and will hope to get back one day! The building and atmosphere are absolutely charming and unique as well - in an old church. Very cool!

“Outstanding!”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Ate on the way to and from Tofino on the Family Day long weekend.

Our table of 10 had a wide variety of the options available: english beer battered; panko and fire grilled. Halibut, salmon and prawns. Everyone raved about their choices, on both occassions. My panko covered halibut was the nicest cooked piece of fish I've every had.

The service was excellent. Especially on our return trip as the owners, seemingly effortlessly, served us and the remainder of the restaurant in an unhurried, professional manner. Our drinks and meals arrived promptly and hot off the grill.

Not really a negative, but our plates were filled with chips and salad (I think most people really like and expect that), but I wish there had been a bit less. Would encourage healthier and better eating habits (or as good as one can have eating fish and chips!). The chips were not, in the slightest, greasy, just perfectly done.

We all agreed that this will be our regular stop on our way to and back from the West Coast.

Congrautlations on such a novel, well run restaurant and we look forward to seeing you many times more.
