We arrived on a sunny day and found the company had moved its office about a hundred feet behind the original one.The new office and the counter ladies made it a pleasure .We loaded onto the frances Barkley and spend the morning cruising the inlet stopping at various stops to let off passengers as well as freight. We arrived in Bamfield and spent some time exploring the town.We then returned to port alberni. The crew on the boat were very helpful and enjoyable to talk to.My wife and i Highly recommend taking this trip and look forward to trying thier Uculet trip this spring.PS You cant find a better days adventure for the price

We rode the MV Lady Rose on a round trip from Port Alberni to Ucluelet in late June of 2006. The vessel sails in the morning, so one must, more or less necessarily, spend the night in or near the town of Port Alberni. As an 11 hour experience, it was a long day. Unfortunately for us, we had scheduled the trip for the hottest day in decades, with a temperature approaching 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The vessel sails from Port Alberni through the Alberni Strait making a couple of stops along the way to the Barkley Sound and the Pacific Rim National Park . One of the stops is the Sechart Lodge. The MV Lady Rose had many kayaks on board, and at the lodge, kayaks, kayakers and great boxes of food for the lodge were unloaded, and departing guests of the lodge and their gear were loaded. I questioned one of my fellow passengers who was a departing guest about her experience at the lodge and she was quite enthusiastic. It should be noted, however, that, other than paddling about in a kayak, the lodge offers few activities. She told me that guests were inhibited from even hiking in the area due to the presence of numerous bears. As for the day trip on the vessel, if one were traveling in a group, it might be more fun to stay in Ucluelet, take the afternoon sailing back to Port Alberni (having prepositioned a spare vehicle in Port Alberni) and then return by car to Ucluelet. The scenery during the trip is quite impressive and is not done justice by photographs.
