“Amazing Race Port Alberni Style”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

What a magic place to visit. It was early in the season when we were there so the coffee shop was not open but we will go back when it is. The store is very nice and the staff very helpful and friendly. I recommend stopping in for a visit to this little gem.

“Excellent & Fun Experience”
Reviewed December 13, 2011

I was recently at the McLean Mill National Historic Sute. It is a great place to visit with lots to see & experience. The highlight was watching the steam powered mill in action. It was so exciting to see the machinery working. It brings history to life & the volunteers have great stories to share. I think whether an adult orvtravelling with kids, it is a great site. Well worth a visit.

“Historic, Interesting and worth your time!”
Reviewed September 28, 2011

This was absolutely better than we thought that it would be. The McLean "Steam" Sawmill is the only commercial steam-operated sawmill in Canada. The best way to get there is to take the time and ride the steam train. You can board the train pulled by a completely restored 1929 Baldwin ex-logging locomotive at the 1912 CPR Station downtown in Port Alberni. The track winds through the City of Port Alberni and then the surrounding forests for 35 minutes each way. At the historic Mill you'll see the old original buildings and lots of restored logging equipment around the site including a steam donkey, logging trucks, graders, and lumber carriers. After your adventure you can have a bite to eat at the Steam Pot Cafe and visit the Mill Store (gift shop) before getting back on board the train. This is fun for adults and children!
