“Friendly quick service but mediocre food”

I read the other reviews and decided to check out Santa Rosa, especially since I’m a fan of Mexican food. It closes early, 7pm, so is obviously more geared to the lunch crowd but we went for an early dinner as we wanted Mexican and there are almost no other options east of Burnaby. You order at the counter from the menu board and seat yourself. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We ordered the chicken nachos and pork enchiladas. The food arrived fairly quickly and the waitress was quite pleasant. Unfortunately we found the food itself to be very disappointing. The nachos were basically chips with diced tomatoes and cilantro, with some seasoned chicken shreds and a minimal amount of cheese and sour cream. No guacamole but I think you can order that separately. The enchiladas were also disappointing, they were covered in a bland red tomato sauce with no seasonings that we could taste (maybe the mole sauce is a better choice?). The rice and beans were equally uninspired. As nice as the service was I don’t think we’ll be back as you can make better Mexican food at home from a package.

The owners are actually from Mexico. They run the resturant and tortilla factory. It's a family run place which makes it even better. The food is the closest you'll find to authentic Mexican good in BC.

This is the best Mexican I have found in BC....it is not Canadianized Mexican...this is Mexican food you would find if you went to somebodies home in Mexico or a little family run place in Mexico. All fresh ingregiants....made fresh to order. There is seriously not one thing on the menu that is not good.

If you love real mexican food, you have to try this place. It is worth the drive!

But its definately no dive, this place is awesome!

I go three times a week at least as I work a few doors down. The Beef Torta (Mexcian sandwich) is my favorite, the way its prepared is a process and one they do all so well. Nothing in this joint is premade, all from scratch when you order!

Whats interesting with the location is that it is the front of a nacho facotry, how cool.

Other favs of mine here:

Tortilla Soup
Pico de Gaillo Salsa and Chips
Mushroom and Cheese Quisadilla.

Its worth a trip to POCO for Santa Rosa!
