“Extremely disappointing”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

This is the first time we have really felt let down by Tripadvisor, as we had booked this based on the good reviews for this resort.

The resort was under a boil water advisory at the time we arrived. I had called the resort to make the reservation and this was never mentioned. We felt this should have been disclosed prior to our arrival. The resort had our email so there was no excuse for not letting us know this was the case.

When we arrived at 6:20pm there was no one in the office. The phone number on the door rang through to a voice mail. We eventually located another number and the owner picked up.
She had us come down to the lower cabins but referenced the wrong cabin and we ended up waiting another 10 minutes until we could locate her. Needlessly stressful.

The owner indicated her cleaning staff had called in sick but she had done her best to clean the cabin. She offered us free use of the kayaks to make up for this.

We purchased some cleaning supplies and my wife ending up spending about 45 minutes cleaning the bathroom so it would be usable. The final straw was when we went to put the kids to bed. The pillows on the upstairs bed were dirty and the bed linens were dirty and stained.

We left and found alternate accommodation for the night. On the plus side, when we checked back the next morning they agreed not to charge us and let us leave our reservation for the next night.

We stayed there in August and September. Our August visit was fun for the whole family. We have a 8 year old a 2 year old and a baby. There was a play ground for the kids and the cabins/chalets were well furnished. The decor there was something different it was fun to walk around and see all the different stuff. There are lots of lakes near by to go visit and a nice little lake for swimming right on the property. I'm back for hunting and their building a meat locker for us hunters right now. We met the owner Eli and she is awesome she will go compleatly out if her way to make your visit great. Staff were awesome place was awesome. We recommend it.

This is one of the strangest 'resorts' I've ever seen. Its sheer strangeness is interesting and slightly terrifying.

We've stayed here before, and the property is now showing serious signs of neglect. The pool (which an employee initially denied that they had) is unfilled (they're not allowed to fill it, apparently). The stables are closed and overgrown. Wrought iron benches are positioned to face into the bush. The statues near the...well, I'm not even sure what the structure was meant to be...are all chipped and falling apart.

You can rent wedding dresses or medieval costumes for $10 an hour (what the heck?). The costumes are really Walmart Hallowe'en costumes, though.

The RV area was all but abandoned: the teepees uncloaked. We have pretty vivid imaginations as a group, so before you know it we were imagining that we were going to be murdered for asking too many questions... It's really that kind of place.

I stayed here based on reviews from others on trip advisor. It is not as advertised. The customer service was poor, the room was less than clean and had a bad smell. Upon arrival we were told about the various activities we could do around the property. However, the "beach" by the lake was garbage strewn and the open areas to play were rocky and uneven. For the price paid, this is not a place I will recommend or come back to.

Room Tip: Don't Stay Here unless you bring your own bedding and cleaning supplies.

Stayed here for 2 night on a mother-daughter-getaway. We were in the Lodge room 6.

Booked because of the name and because the place in not on the highway like a lot of the accommodation in Princeton.

The grounds a HUGE! There are a lot of interesting things around; a tiny lake, lamas, chickens, ruins, wildlife, river, peacocks a lot of space. The only thing is that everything is not very well kept. Many things were falling to bits. And the animals didn't seem to be cared for 100% well.

We were checked in by a very friendly lady who mentioned that she is the owner and proceeded to tell us about how hard it is to make money off this place.

Our room was very comfortable and clean. We even had a tiny fridge in it, unfortunate it hummed loudly all night and we had to sleep with ear plugs. The decor was unique but for the price it was great. Upon entering we noticed that we had no towels and I went in search of someone to ask. The same woman who checked us in drove me across the entire grounds to the laundry room where she helped not only me but someone else get the needed linen and towels.

The lodge has a communal kitchen on the main floor that I enjoyed having to make breakfast.

Overall the place is good for the price, but don't expect anything fancy and be prepared for a little bit of hassle.

Princeton Castle Resort- My first visit at this interesting place. On touring the property saw walled ruins of a 1910 Cement Factory. Several Llamas wander the grounds. There are peacocks and chickens in enclosures. The accommodation was comfortable with a coffee pot, microwave and small fridge in the room. Only eight rooms in the Lodge. A kitchen & dining area on first floor in case you want to cook your own meals, otherwise NO FOOD SERVICE here. Go back to Princeton for eats. Cabins and RV/Camping available on property. There is a small lake for water activities, hiking & nature walks in the area, but mostly peace and quiet here. Good getaway for escape from the city.

This was the first time we visited this resort during the Civic long weekend of Aug and we were pleasantly impressed by the location, and size of the resort, but that is where our fascination ended. When one first drives into the huge entrance way you immediately notice the ruins that once were the walls of the castle. Walking into the front office we were greeted by an Asian lady who was pretty curt and rude the best. We had rented 8 cabanas and a cabin as we were travelling in a group of 20. I guess it was the long weekend so the management thought that customer service was not to be a priority and hence there were some demanding rules and no exception policy laid out and made clear to us in no uncertain terms.

The Pros: Fantastic location, great outdoors, some wildlife to see (if you call a family of squirrels clawing the back of the cabana through the night and some llamas', deer and fawn a peacock and pea hen wildlife), rustic setting, and Size of the resort.

The Cons: Poorly maintained (I personally feel it is too much for and family to run a resort of this size and magnitude - it should be taken over by a bigger chain of hotel and this would indeed be a 5 Star), STINKY TOILETS (but I must sat they were clean, When I say Stinky I mean no ventilation so the smell would choke the toughest to tough), everything was falling apart including statues that once would have done this resort proud. The cabanas were falling apart at the seams (see pictures), The lake or pond (whatever you want to call it) was green with moss build up or something to that extent and I personally would not jump in if someone gave me a Million bucks (or maybe for that amount I just might). The chapel was a joke (3 Benches all facing a wall in a 10 X 6 room if that).

We went to the front office to ask if we could buy some firewood for the night and we were told to read the signs posted along the grounds there was a Camp fire Ban in place. When we told them others at the RV site and cabins and cabanas were lighting camp fires they simply said they do not have the fire wood.

You will notice from my previous reviews I am fairly generous with my ratings but with this place the best I could give it was a 2 Star. Would I go there again - NO. The place has everything going for it but the owners just don't care. Stay Away if you take my advice.

Room Tip: Pick a cabin facing the river that will give you the best view and maybe value.
