“Not worth the money”
Reviewed March 18, 2012

The location is very good for this hotel, but it puts itself price-wise in company that it does not measure up to. I'm thinking Motel 6 would be better value! We stayed in this hotel in early March, 2012 and we chose it based on price and also because it had breakfast included, and had a fridge in the room. The "breakfast" wasn't even on par with a Super 8 style breakfast; it was white bread and watery coffee. No muffins, no fruit. The breakfast room is only large enough for a couple of people at a time, and in ski season, of course everyone wants in at the same time. Very disappointing. The (sleeping) room overall was very small - the tiled entry area was so small you had to step on the carpet to close the door. There was no deadbolt or chain lock on the door; just the twist knob type. The walls were thin, and you could hear the conversations of every person walking by (all night!). There was no clock in the room, no coffee maker, but the microwave was appreciated as we re-heated our dinner from the night before in lieu of white bread for breakfast. The internet was non-existent in the room but apparently was ok in the main office. I didn't try it there. We will not be back to this particular hotel.

Room Tip: 2nd floor would have less noise from people walking by the room returning to their room after a nigh...

My buddy and I stayed here for two nights to ski the local resort. It's definitely not an upscale property, but it was clean and comfortable and the price was good as compared to other properties in the area. The hot tub was clean and spacious, perfect for apres ski, and two decent restaurants are right across the street. The continental breakfast on offer was pretty mediocre (we brought our own granola) but better than nothing I guess, because you can always choose to go somewhere else. Nice to get a 10% discount on lift tickets as well. All in all, a decent place to stay for the price.

There was a gap under the door and we could feel the breeze: we were freezing. Electric baseboards had a hard time getting it warm. Cheap finishings. No alarm clock, bathtub (shower only) or coffee maker. Could hear the neighbours through the walls. last time we stayed in an upgraded room: was much better.

The Gateway Inn is not so much accommodation as storage for your sleeping body and valuables as you recover from whatever you are doing in Revelstoke. That being said, it is run by pleasant people, comfortable, well-located and generally nice. It has a good hot tub. The bus to Revelstoke mountain goes from just across the road and this is convenient, it is also one of the places closest to the Greyhound station on the way into town (although you need to detour to cross the CPR rail line). If what you are doing is outside and you are away most of the day, this is an ideal budget location. Breakfast is included in many room prices.

We stayed here for one night on our way through Revelstoke. Didn't get a chance to use the hot tub on site. Our room was small and basic (on the first floor). The bathroom had a tub/shower combination, which was good. The ant traps in the corner of the room were less attractive (though I didn't see any ants while there).

There's a sign affixed to the hotel that says they have free pool passes (for the recreation centre in town). When we asked, the person working didn't know what we were talking about. After pointing out the sign, we found out that it's not exactly a free pool pass... you have to go the recreation centre and pay for your admission, then bring your receipt back to the motel ,and they will reimburse you for half of the cost.

I am overall satisfied with the Revelstoke Gateway Inn. There are a bunch of new renovations that have greatly improved the Inn. The manager lets you view a few similar rooms before picking, and I took advantage of this. I found one that met my vacation needs perfectly. It was big, clean, and bright. I appreciated how there was a fridge in all the rooms I saw. There is also a little rag that is pretty handy. The light breakfast is not fancy, but enough to start my day (they have toaster, milk, coffee, juice, cereal, etc.)

I agree with the previous review; even though I’m a light sleeper, I was not bothered by the train at night.

We were headed to Revelstoke and looking for a place to stay.
We didn't need much--mostly beds and a kitchenette.

So we got what we wanted that way.
So it all depends on what you're looking for.

If it's an overnight stay-fine.
If it's a place to use as a base for day trips and then come back and sleep-okay.
Not much of a place to hang out though.

I found it odd though, that we had a kitchenette but no table.
We sat on the chairs in the room, or the bed.
But it was mostly for breakfast and one quick lunch & one lazy supper.

So it depends what you want the room for--there are nicer places--but can you afford them?
There are cheaper places, but the savings aren't necessarily worth it.

As for the train?
I heard it, but then again--it's Revelstoke--where in Revelstoke won't you hear a train?
It didn't affect out sleeping.
