“Ok for a night”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

We chose the canyon motor inn because it met our budget and said it was in a quiet location. I don't think that right next to the railway line where trains start blaring their horns at 4am, although you would hear this in all of Revelstoke, and the Trans Canadian Highway 1 is a quiet location but if you can sleep through noise then it is ok as a stopover. The rooms are quite small and dated but the double bed was comfortable and there was free internet. The bathroom was small but ok. The fridge was very noisy and so we had to turn it off overnight. Plenty of parking. It is a 30 minute walk into Revelstoke where there is a good choice of restaurants. The advertised restaurant onsite 'open between Mid may - september' was closed in June so I wouldn't rely on it being open. We booked through bookings.com and the owner did comment that we got their winter rate but they did honor it.

We picked this hotel as we were on our way to Banff and needed a place to rest for the night, we were traveling as 2 Adults + 2 small children. Overall it met our expectations, I would not give it a rating better than Average as there was nothing that special about it but at the same time did not fall below expectations either except perhaps the decor.

PROs
- Very convenient location right off the freeway
- Clean
- Reasonable price for the area

CONs
- Older decor in the room
- Bathroom has VERY old decor, it's the old style yellow tiles and just has a very aged 1970s look. The shower is one of those old nossles
- Internet does not work very well
- Staff does not seem enthusiastic to work there - very mechanical, sarcastic at times. Example- when I asked for a cable for the internet I was told it was wireless and that "the whole world could access and that they were subsidizing the Chevron" -- I wondered why they didn't just add a password?

We only stayed one night at the Canyon Motor Inn - which is just as well as our room was quite small but very clean. The beds were comfortable and the shower good - the bonus was a microwave and coffee machine - so all in all - probably good value as a stopping off motel between Okanagan Valley and Banff. We think the owner thought we'd done "a runner" - came knocking on the door to see if we'd gone - quite strange!

Room Tip: Make sure you park your car where the owners can see it - otherwise they'll think you're ski...

On the outskirts of downtown Revelstoke, this did the job for us, at reasonable rates, though it was a very cold half hours walk to the local restaurants and bars. The place is pleasant enough, with the usual friendly service, though the decor is a bit twee. But we didn't come for that, all that mattered was were the beds comfortable, and was the bathroom clean. And they were, so no problems. Although the two in our party who took the room across the courtyard may not have thought so; we lucked out with the room in the main building, being much larger and altogether more comfortable.

Room Tip: Gotta be in the main building, the rooms there are so much better and bigger.

This is a basic motel, and good for them that they are enjoying the extra business that Revelstoke is attracting these days. The rooms are basic but the staff keeps them clean and continues to reinvest in new fridges, microwaves and so on. We were only there for a night, staff were super, very pleasant and gave us good advice. If you need a place to sleep, rest and shower because you are skiiing or moving on this is the place.

Room Tip: Trains go by so often, eventually you won't even notice them.

It's simple and inexpensive.

Lots of parking near your room so you don't have to go to far to hump your gear.

Was supposed to have a restaurant open but it was not when I was there (Thursday August 25, 2011). There is a Denny's near by but the quality of the food and service there (from previous expreience) is POOR. Go to the Tim Hortons across the streat.

Incredible views of the mountains but you'd get that no matter where you go in Revelstoke. Location is near the train so you can hear that on a regular basis - but it's still not bad. Rooms are mostly a motel set up, but there are a few hotel rooms. There are two floors to the location.

Lots of room for bus or tractor/trailer parking - easy to get to off the highway.

We had a small room which was clean & comfortable. Just outside the door was a view of the river and the bridge. It was walking distance to the restaurants and shops. And the price was just what they said, $79! Staff was great too.
