Our daughter was married yesterday at Lavender House at the Tin Poppy Retreat, and "WOW" hardly covers the experience. It was our lucky day when I discovered the venue and owners online, because Maggie and Jeremy made everything possible. We did not have to do anything, absolutely every detail was covered, the views and decor and food were nothing short of fantastic. It's just the best way to handle a wedding, really enjoyable and totally stress-free.
A unique rental with its huge screened in sun room with great views of the forest...Its charm is the sun room and the extreme quietness due to its slightly remote location reached by forestry roads. We found a very good propane stove, electric fridge, and loads of seating. We were visited by two very friendly neighbourhood dogs and a most intelligent cat that tried to open doors with its mouth. You can easily reach the Larch Hills winery from this site. I would advise locating the Tin Poppy during daylight hours. At night you might have trouble "spotting" the signs. The typical car can travel the forestry roads. Just drive slowly and carefully. (from a guest of Sharon)
The drive off the main road which is well marked is definitely worth it. Once you are at the Tin Poppy you are in relaxation mode. The vintage trailer has everything you need for comfort and the screened-in outdoor living area helped keep us protected from the mosquitoes during the day. The air cooled down beautifully at night for a very refreshing sleep for all of us including our dog. You have to use the outdoor shower which is the best ever! Recommend a visit to the Larch Hills Winery about 15 minute drive -- good wine, friendly family run winery and very reasonable prices. Although we did not meet Maggie we were in contact if needed which suited us perfectly. Thank you for the energy bites!
We chose Tin Poppy for its glamoing appeal and it"s location near Salmon Arm . We included this stop as part of a two week, 2000 miles journey. Maggie has thought of every detail. She was highlyncommunicative about directions which is important as TP is about 5 miles into dirt forest roads with several turns . (Not advisable for late, dark night arrival). The travel camper and house enclosure are crafted with amazing style and detail. The bedding and comfort of the bed assured a wonderful few night a sleep. We brought groceries to enjoy the TP without having to depart for meals, it was fantastic and I highly recommend a visit. We'd like to go back for Nordic skiing!
A great adventure with two young kids (ages 7 and 9). The winter sky was twinkling with millions of stars. We were snug inside the Poppy with the fire ablaze. A very cozy escape! Jeremy and Maggie have obviously put a lot of effort into making this such a special place.
We spent a relaxing long weekend with our two kids at the Tin Poppy in mid November.
When we arrived, Maggie had thoughtfully put on some lights and lit the fireplace so the Tin Poppy was glowing and warm for us. It looked charming perched on the little knoll as we drove up.
My husband and I unpacked and settled in with a glass of lovely homemade wine that she had left along with a bundle of dried garlic and some fresh baked rice crispie squares. Maggie had also left a lovely hand printed note to contact her if we needed anything. We felt truly taken care of.
The accommodation is a unique mixture of modern and retro with a lovingly restored 50's trailer housed within a massive vaulted two story timber frame structure. Just a few steps away is a wood fired sauna and large fire pit to hang out by.
The interior of the trailer is adorable and beautifully adorned with sweet little vintage relics everywhere. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to make good wholesome meals and has a nice new clean fridge and new gas stove.
The beds are soft and comfortable and clad in plaid flannel sheets with large fluffy duvets. We had one very rainy night where we had a sauna, tucked in and read and listened to the rain pound on the roof. It was super comfy.
The sauna is brilliant. We spent almost every morning and evening having a family sauna. The kids thoroughly enjoyed chopping kindling for the fire and there was plenty of wood available.
For fun we brought our bikes and went for some nice hikes. There is a map of the trails on the property so there is a lot to explore. The lookout trail is amazing with an incredible view of the valley stretching all the way to Armstrong.
There is so much to see and do in the area. I would recommend bringing bikes as there are lots of back roads and trails near by. Larch Hills Cross Country Ski area is close by as well however we were a little too early to catch the snow.
We would definitely book the Tin Poppy again. It was perfect for a family get way!
Tin Poppy Review
One word for Tin Poppy -- AWESOME! We are a small family -- a pack of four with two humans and two small dogs. We went away to Tin Poppy with intentions for a quiet weekend and to be in natural beauty which we got in abundance. This very cozy, warm, and quirky place called Tin Poppy surpassed our expectations. The host Maggie was very attentive and generous. We were greeted with a bottle of homemade red wine, fresh garlic from the garden, and handmade poppy seed soap all of which we thoroughly enjoyed. This refined retro trailer is comfortable and polished – it is spacious, cozy and finely refurbished. The structure surrounding the trailer is truly a work of art and so well finished. The entire living space was spotless when we arrived and this was really important to us. We sweated it out a few times in the lovely outdoor wood-fire sauna, took in a crisp fall fire, and went for long walks. We definitely returned home healed and rejuvenated. Living off the grid was inspiring for sure. We have traveled a lot and been to many vacation rentals and this place is definitely at the top of our list. We plan to make Tin Poppy our annual fall retreat – it’s a must go to place and we highly recommend it.
