The Latch is a must vist/ eat both for locals and visitors. Our meal was so good that we went back the next night for Luigi's crepe with fresh fruit and his grappa. Valerie's efforts in the kitchen were superb and it's obvious that they have both been in the industry for a long time. It wasn't just a meal, it was an experience .. And one we wil treat our friends and visitors to. World class!,

A bonus would be dining out on the deck enjoying a great summer sunset over the water. The building and restaurant have a elegant vintage quality that is kept original and is part of the experience. The italian owner(Luigi) and his family(wife cooks, daughter serves) offer up authentic homeland entrees, appys and even desserts.(makes his own gelato). The antipasto recipie is his Mothers and the best, according to my wife's pallete. Phone ahead as they will book the whole place for weddings. Checkout: www.latchinn.ca.

The Latch Inn was originally called Miraloma ( like the boutique hotel that shares the property) and was the summer home of the BC lieutenant- governor in the 1920's. The 85 year old building is rustic but facinating inside and out, has a small 6 room inn, multiple public spaces, a dining room and outdoor facilities for events. The current owners are a wonderful Italian / Romanian couple who are striving to make this an enjoyable, going concern, seeking the fulfillment of the 'north' American dream. The dining room is cozy, seating about 25 people, but can be expanded into other rooms for larger groups. It is historically decorated including many of the owners antiques. The menu and wine list displayed the Italian / continental touch of the owners, with an amazing offering of daily specials for a small concern. We rarely see escargot offered. It arrived with the traditional garlic and butter preparation and puff pastries atop- had almost forgotten how good they are. We had a genuine, prepared at the table, Ceasar salad- so very much better than current trend of over dressed, bulk salad from the kitchen. We had a fair priced, good bottle of Barbara d'Alba with our veal and pork entrees. The meat and saucing in both cases was very good. Better yet was the five different vegatables on the plate from the owners garden, each prepared and spiced differently, but all complementary. Service was excellent- it was the owner afterall. The meal was a good value for the quality served. While not affiliated with the Miraloma on the Cove, this restaurant clearly relies on the proximity to the larger hotel. But it is an interesting visit on its own and should be dining option for anyone visiting Sidney.

We had to search just a bit for his lovely, cozy restaurant built in the 1920s using BC logs. A friendly couple (she chefs, he waits) serve well-priced meals with a distinct Italian flair. Delicious and highly atmospheric. Take a walk in the garden. Rooms upstairs (we got a tour) are for guests to book and hark back to 1920's elegance. There is a "resort" next door, but it is new and not as charming as the 5 rooms upstairs from this wonderful restaurant. Very reasonable prices!
