Description: Since 1990, the Rumrunner Pub & Restaurant has served delicious seafood and West Coast cuisine in a spectacular setting along the Sidney waterfront at picturesque Port Sidney Marina. Patrons enjoy a warm ambience, great food, and unforgettable views of the ocean, Gulf & San Juan Islands and Mount Baker. The cozy restaurant and bar both boast warm feature fireplaces, and in warmer weather the two outdoor patios allow diners the opportunity to enjoy sunshine and sea breezes. "Staff are friendly and cheerful, and we have a great kitchen staff," "Our pub menu is first class." At the full-service bar, customers can choose from a large selection of beverages - there's local and import beer in the bottle and on tap, as well as a wide selection of wines. Owner Bill Singer worked for 14 years in the Oak Bay Beach Hotel's venerable Snug before opening the Rumrunner in 1990. Since then, the Rumrunner Pub & Restaurant has become a favoured spot for locals, a regular stop for visiting boaters, and a great find for visitors to Sidney.

We called in for coffee, but the food looked good so we had a "small" meal as well. A hot dog special in a baguette with an interesting yam and pickle soup - much tastier than it sounds, and a chilli prawn salad. We could not fault the food or service and it was a bonus to park outside.

We sat in the open patio, the pub area looked quite busy.

Never having been in Sidney before, I strolled along the main road towards the shore and then turned left, just taking in the sights when I came across the Rumrunner Pub. Being a bit peckish I thought I'd give this local watering hole a try and much to my delight, it was, well, a delight!
The decor is definitely old school pub, lots of dark wood and stained glass, which well matches it's history of the rumrunning days of prohibition. There is both an outdoor and indoor area with plenty of glass and great views of the water.
The service was prompt and attentive, the staff happy to chat about the food and quite knowledgeable about the various beers on tap. I had the fish and chips one evening (fresh off the dock) and then went back the next day and tried a burger, both were well executed and reasonably sized, the pricing was also pretty good.
If local pubs with good fare are your thing, then you shouldn't be disappointed.

Atmosphere was nice, food was just okay. But it's just a pub. Nice staff. One of many pubs in the area.

4 good reasons NOT to go to the rumrunner pub:
-Over priced; 19.50 for one peice fish & chips, come on!
-Small portions; they were dwarf size meals!
-Poorly trained staff; they didn't even take our menus away, or greet us when we first came in!
-Watered down condiments; is vinegar that expensive?

I've been to the Rumrunner Pub at least 4 or 5 times and always enjoyed myself. The food is great - the yam fries are actually cripy (not soggy), the fish is fresh, the sauces and dressings are unique and well balanced. Lots of outdoor seating, all of which is protected from the wind. The staff is not the brightest bunch, but they aren't rude. Kitchen can be a little slow if it's super busy, but no worse than any other restaurant. I would go there again soon and would be happy to take friends or family.
