Was in Sidney for a conference and booked a single Essential King Room. I had a couple of options at the front desk - the Trip Advisor "free room upgrade" and a preferential rate that the conference had apparently arranged with the Pier. The woman at the front desk couldn't find any information about a preferential rate and the "upgrade" wasn't possible because there weren't any rooms at the next level available. However, she was quite accommodating and was able to give me the BC resident rate which took about $10 off the room rate. Doesn't hurt to ask.

The room was clean and well laid out - comfortable bed and tastefully decorated. The Essential is just that - bed, desk, flatscreen TV (with built in DVD player), and a chair. Washroom was shower only, no tub. Not an issue for me. This room was on the street side so no ocean view ... not sure if this was the designated "haggle room" or if all of the Essential rooms are street side.

Building was quiet once I figured out how to turn the heat/ac fan off - it would have been impossible to sleep with it on. No need for a wake up call as flights from nearby Sidney airport around 6:00 were loud enough to wake you up.

All in all a good looking room for a fairly reasonable price. And it is worth checking the charge when you check out - they "overcharged" me by about $70 but were very open about it being incorrect and charged me the right amount when I left. I imagine this is probably a hotel policy to get a "deposit."

We live in this area, and for a birthday treat, my husband took me here for the night and a nice dinner in Sidney. We did not want to leave the room to go out for dinner! We realized we should have just picked up some food from one of the excellent local restaurants and stayed in.

We had a "Signature suite", overlooking the water. The view was fabulous, the room we had is well designed to take in every bit of the lovely view. The room had two baths, kitchenette and very comfortable living room area with great visibility. There was also a lovely balcony, although not very usable at this time of year, would be great in the warmer months. The Sunday morning yacht races started right in front of the hotel, so my husband was in heaven with his coffee and binos, doing the color commentary.

The full bath off the master has a lovely soaker tub, separate shower and separate w/c area. The bath products are very good quality.

Virtually no complaints at all (OK the bed was a titch hard, but that's personal taste, right??).

The staff are excellent- service was first rate, up to and including a lovely plate of truffles and a "Happy Birthday" message in the room when we arrived.

The hotel mascot, "Dave" the black labrador retriever is a joy to see in the lobby, doing his rounds and lounging on his bed. Any hotel with a dog in lobby is my kind of place.

Next special occasion, we're going back! Maybe not even a special occasion!

Room Tip: Give yourself a treat and get a suite- they are really lovely.

Stayed there some times for my business trip. Great hotel. Clean rooms, courteous service, great location, oceanview! But, again, unfortunately, breakfast is NOT included. WHY????
Pretty high pricetag, and no breakfast. Please be careful, they like to BLOCK some money on your credit card to kind of keep you stressed out so you don't break or damage anything in the hotel. Sometimes they do forget to unblock and you'll have to call them so they unblock the funds.

What a wonderful experience staying in this beautiful, new, scenic, modern hotel in gorgeous Sidney, BC. We stayed here as part of the Liona Boyd Vancouver Island Tour in November and the staff couldn't have been more gracious and attentive to all our needs! It was the perfect place....all rooms were fabulous--we stayed in a suite overlooking the ocean with kitchen, two bathrooms, wonderful amenities and very tastefully decorated. And clean, clean, clean. Restaurant was superb with excellent service. The hotel is dog friendly...which is perfect considering we travel everywhere with our yellow lab. Would stay here again in a heartbeat! Would definitely consider coming back to try the beautiful spa.

My husband and myself visit Sidney Pier regularly as our peace and relaxation spot from Vancouvers busy busy! We have a beautiful view from all class living room facing the ocean. The wine store across the street carries our favorite Burrowing Owl and the restaurant downstairs is a total 5 star! food is never a let down. We bring our dog and he has a little bed and bowl provided by the fire place....We hit the spa for a little massage and all this is done without leaving the building or ever getting in a car! sunday we hit one of the all day breakfasts up the street. WE LOVE THIS PLACE!

Room Tip: all the front facing rooms have charm :) we've stayed in three different ones.

We stayed for 2 nights in November and were thoroughly impressed for the whole stay.
The King Suite with the Full Kitchen is a great value, especially if you like to save by cooking your own meals, and spend the remaining money on a better class of accommodations, which has been our plan of late.
The only 2 comments are that the heating and cooling system seems to whistle a bit, and the drapes in our suite didn't actually cover the small sliver of glass where one of the small jogs in the outside wall create a 6 inch return.
We'd highly recommend this as a great getaway spot!

This hotel is fabulous. We stayed in one of the Signature Pier Suites and it had everything we needed with a fully equipped kitchen. AND THE VIEWS~Just gorgeous!

After our stay, we would never book anywhere else when visiting Sidney.
