We went out at 1700 hrs on a Monday evening; the poster outside the office said "whales guaranteed" and they were there in large numbers after the 30 minute ride out to the San Juan Islands. Jeff provided a great insight into their lives and society, identifying specific orca by their pod and number designations. This was done in an informal way but belied his great knowledge and love of them. His boat handling was excellent, with virtually no disturbance to their movements he positioned the Zodiac in their path time and time again so we could see them swimming past.
The real excitement of the evening came when we glimpsed some of the younger orca with their mother.
His experience and boat-handling was in sharp contrast to some other boats (fishing and yachts) which paid no attention to the well-being of the orca and motored straight amongst them. Everyone got a chance to take photographs and for those who missed the best shots Jeff forwarded his own ones later that week.
The whole trip was very professional and unhurried; highly recommended.

Jeff provided a wonderful trip with up-close whale watching in a small boat. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to photographers needs. We also went out on another trip in a larger boat but it wasn't nearly as much fun and did not provide as much action as with the Emerald Sea trip.

This was my third whale watching experience and was by far the best. The fact that the boat is smaller makes the entire experience more intimate and Jeff is a fantastic guide. The whales got really close to us and the viewing was excellent. He is full of fun facts and really wants you to enjoy the trip and the whales. Even though I was a party of one, he never made me feel out of place or alone. I will do this trip again the next time I visit!
Jeff, thanks for a "whale of a good time" !

I was able to experience Emerald Sea Adventures recently with my girlfriend and my parents. It was a perfect clear and calm evening and there were more Orcas out than I ever could have imagined. We were able to see them breech several times and it was amazing. I will be going back to visit Jeff again some day for sure. If you want a memorable trip with a super fun guide this is your spot!

If Real Whale Watching is what you want, then Emerald Sea is the place to go.
Can't speak too highly of this trip. The boat is an exciting ride, the skipper Jeff Wonnenberg is both eco sensitive and knowledgable. He is willing to stay out as long as it takes to get you to see whales in all their natural glory. Unlike other companies, Emerald Sea makes every effort to get as close to these magnificent animals as possible but at the same time ensures he does nothing to harrass them. Well woth every minute and every cent (and he's cheaper than most as well)
