“Very good location for walking the town and close to the ferry”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

The Beacon Inn is in the wonderful little towno n the Washington Ferry terminal, just 12 miles north of Victoria. Most folks bypass the town on the way to Victoria but we loved the day we spent there. Beacon Inn is an elegant old building with nice room guest rooms and private baths. Parking is off street in the rear. They have tea and cookies out all day and even offered us sherry in the afternoon. The breakfast was very good. We were very comfortable in the room and it was quiet. We were upgraded for free since another couple needed the room we had booked on the main floor. The staff was helpful but it was run as an inn, with staff during the day, rather than an intimate B&B setting. Lots of good restaurants and bookstores and shops nearby. It is a bit pricey however.

Room Tip: Many of the rooms are up steep stairs with no elevator so if stairs are a problem, ask for a main le...

We spent 2 nights in early August and chose the Inn based on its reviews on TA and the nearness to the Washington State Ferry System dock. Having been "on the road" for 10 days in BC, we wanted comfort and quiet within walking distance to restaurants. Our room was located on the second level (American) and it was beautifully decorated with all comforts of home+. Since it was quite warm outside, we enjoyed cool afternoons watching the Olympic Games before dinner at Bistro Swiss - a wonderful restaurant - so good that we dined there for both nights!!! (That is a rare day for us.) Breakfast was tasteful, served in a lovely setting, tho a bit formal; and my dietary restrictions were met. The chef/desk help gave us a wonderful suggestion for a drive along the water to Oak Bay, around Beacon Hill Park and ending in downtown Victoria - we enjoyed seeing some beautiful residential neighborhoods as well as water and views of Olympic Range of mountains in Washington State. A quick drive back to Sidney on the freeway followed.
Since it is close to our home in Seattle area, I am sure to return.

We just came back from a 3 day stay at the Beacon Inn and can't say enough good things about it. From the really good breakfast in the lovely dining room, to the exceptional room we stayed in, everything was just perfect, and you couldn't ask for a better location. We would definitely stay at this Inn again.

We came across the Beacon Inn quite by accident while looking for a get-a-way to escape Florida's heat and humidity. Everything was impeccable. They have thought of every detail of a traveler's wish. The full breakfast was beautifully presented and tasted great. It's quiet, within walking distance to sights, waterfront, great restaurants, shopping, and ferry terminal. The friendly staff was very helpful for us newcomers. We'll definitely come back more more stays.

Stayed one night for our one year anniversary. When booking room online, the website specifically asked the reason for the stay, so I selected - anniversary and expected some sort of recognition for this either during check in or in our room but nothing noted.

We stayed in a Easterly room.... "San Juan", which was just lovely and well appointed. The double jetted tub was very nice and the bedding was amazing. What surprised us was that for a newer building, there is no noise barrier between the floors and we could hear running water and footsteps for hours until about 12:30 am and then again at 5am til 6am while the guests upstairs made for an early departure running up and down the stairs ruining our romantic weekend.

There were no grounds or gardens either which surprised us as well. Need to spend more time carefully investigating B&B's in the future.

The breakfast that we were looking forward to was not to expectations. The coffee was good but the french toast was one small piece and lacked any flavour or any visual appeal . For a B&B, we were expecting to be wowed but were sadly disappointed.

We will not be back.

Room Tip: Take a top floor... or you will be kept awake by footsteps of the guests above you.

I travel to South Vancouver Island a couple times a year for business. I found this lovely little B&B/hotel a couple of years ago now and have stayed there consistently since. While most of my business takes me into Victoria, the 1/2 drive is worth the stay and the hotel generously gives me a business rate. Staying at the Beacon Inn makes my trip feel more like a vacation that a work trip. At the set breakfast (offered at 2 different times), inevitably there are people from far away places, enjoying this lovely spot in Canada. The rooms are very charming and all different. Beds are great - lovely linens. Sherry is offered at 5 before one heads out to dinner. The hotel is within walking distance to some very nice restaurants and the ocean walk way. Sidney has some very nice shops as well. The staff are very professional, friendly, and interesting. One drawback and to some, an advantage, is the proximity to the Victoria airport - planes fly over Sidney so those early morning flights are a tad annoying, but not enough to keep me away.

It is located just a block from the main street, so the location is very convenient.

The inn is a gorgeous establishment. It has been beautifully and tastefully decorated. All the little touches make it feel like you're coming home. The service was lovely and timely. They have a good communication system between the staff. We spoke with one employee about checking out early, and then found out the owner and another employee were brought up to speed. You don't often find that everyone is on the same page!

Breakfast was tasty and filling. We had yogurt and berries with a muffin. Then french toast sandwiches with black forest ham and cream cheese. Since we had to leave early the next day, they packed us to-go bags!

The living room/reception area is inviting and after dinner, we would sit there for a little while and relax. We stayed in the Salt Spring Island suite on the third floor. Our stay was short and we didn't make very much use of the kitchenette, but it's nice to have. Home-made cookies, a dish of candies and some sherry were laid out. The bathroom in our suite is a forest green that is calm and soothing. Bathrobes are provided, the linens are fresh, and the soaker tub is large. The bedroom is a good size and has a four-poster bed. There's a fireplace and a tv as well. There's also a big closet in case you brought a lot with you.

We stayed mid-week and practically had the place all to ourselves! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends.
