“Best Kept Secret in BC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2012

We came across the Beacon Inn quite by accident while looking for a get-a-way to escape Florida's heat and humidity. Everything was impeccable. They have thought of every detail of a traveler's wish. The full breakfast was beautifully presented and tasted great. It's quiet, within walking distance to sights, waterfront, great restaurants, shopping, and ferry terminal. The friendly staff was very helpful for us newcomers. We'll definitely come back more more stays.

Stayed one night for our one year anniversary. When booking room online, the website specifically asked the reason for the stay, so I selected - anniversary and expected some sort of recognition for this either during check in or in our room but nothing noted.

We stayed in a Easterly room.... "San Juan", which was just lovely and well appointed. The double jetted tub was very nice and the bedding was amazing. What surprised us was that for a newer building, there is no noise barrier between the floors and we could hear running water and footsteps for hours until about 12:30 am and then again at 5am til 6am while the guests upstairs made for an early departure running up and down the stairs ruining our romantic weekend.

There were no grounds or gardens either which surprised us as well. Need to spend more time carefully investigating B&B's in the future.

The breakfast that we were looking forward to was not to expectations. The coffee was good but the french toast was one small piece and lacked any flavour or any visual appeal . For a B&B, we were expecting to be wowed but were sadly disappointed.

We will not be back.

Room Tip: Take a top floor... or you will be kept awake by footsteps of the guests above you.

I travel to South Vancouver Island a couple times a year for business. I found this lovely little B&B/hotel a couple of years ago now and have stayed there consistently since. While most of my business takes me into Victoria, the 1/2 drive is worth the stay and the hotel generously gives me a business rate. Staying at the Beacon Inn makes my trip feel more like a vacation that a work trip. At the set breakfast (offered at 2 different times), inevitably there are people from far away places, enjoying this lovely spot in Canada. The rooms are very charming and all different. Beds are great - lovely linens. Sherry is offered at 5 before one heads out to dinner. The hotel is within walking distance to some very nice restaurants and the ocean walk way. Sidney has some very nice shops as well. The staff are very professional, friendly, and interesting. One drawback and to some, an advantage, is the proximity to the Victoria airport - planes fly over Sidney so those early morning flights are a tad annoying, but not enough to keep me away.

It is located just a block from the main street, so the location is very convenient.

The inn is a gorgeous establishment. It has been beautifully and tastefully decorated. All the little touches make it feel like you're coming home. The service was lovely and timely. They have a good communication system between the staff. We spoke with one employee about checking out early, and then found out the owner and another employee were brought up to speed. You don't often find that everyone is on the same page!

Breakfast was tasty and filling. We had yogurt and berries with a muffin. Then french toast sandwiches with black forest ham and cream cheese. Since we had to leave early the next day, they packed us to-go bags!

The living room/reception area is inviting and after dinner, we would sit there for a little while and relax. We stayed in the Salt Spring Island suite on the third floor. Our stay was short and we didn't make very much use of the kitchenette, but it's nice to have. Home-made cookies, a dish of candies and some sherry were laid out. The bathroom in our suite is a forest green that is calm and soothing. Bathrobes are provided, the linens are fresh, and the soaker tub is large. The bedroom is a good size and has a four-poster bed. There's a fireplace and a tv as well. There's also a big closet in case you brought a lot with you.

We stayed mid-week and practically had the place all to ourselves! We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to friends.

I just spent two days in Sidney on business and had the pleasure to stay at the Beacon Inn B&B. This property is very well kept. Quiet, warm, and comfortable is how I would describe it. The staff, I met Warren and Maria, were extremely helpful and charming people. I stayed in the Galiano (sp?) room, a large west-facing room with fireplace, flat screen TV, large bath/tub and separate shower. The entire property was immaculately clean. The pillow top queen size bed was heaven and I commented to Maria in the morning that it was the best nights sleep I've had in probably 15 years. The full breakfast was wonderful, two sittings 0800 and 0930, since my business colleague and I were the only ones there we got special attention, I'm sure. There were snacks to munch on, available 24/7, coffee and tea as well as a small common fridge if we wanted to keep some food. If I were to complain about anything would be the spotty Wi-Fi. Although I could get a signal in my room it wasn't great, but going down stairs and sitting in the beautiful front room of the property (by the fireplace) I had a great signal. Parking in the back of the property was fine, but might become crowded in the peak season. Within walking distance of some great restaurants and the main drag of Sidney.

Room Tip: Pick a west-facing room, I think they are a little larger. My colleague had an east-facing room whic...

Thank you for your lovely detailed review, we are delighted to hear that you and your colleague enjoyed your recent stay! Thank you also for bringing to our attention the spotty WiFi reception on the upper floors, prompting us to take immediate action to resolve the issue. I'm happy to report today that we were able to increase the signal with the addition of new booster, and the WiFi reception is now perfect from all locations on the property.

A brief note about our rooms - you were indeed in the Galiano Island room, a lovely Westerly (Premium) category room and your colleague had stayed in one of our Sky (Standard) category rooms that faces north-east... the Sky category rooms are a little smaller than the Westerly rooms and should not to be confused with our Easterly (Superior) category rooms.

Thank you once again for your kind comments and helpful feedback. We look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to Sidney.

We had the opportunity to stay at this Inn in their junior suite. Very nice, clean, spacious! And great view. Friendly, helpful staff, and walking distance to restaurants, shops, etc.
