This is a place for children to explore; adults might find it less exciting.

This aquarium is magnificent. My older children loved it. With hands on experiences and a fabulous gift shop, this is sure to be an attraction not to miss. We took about an hour to view the displays, I never knew that our oceans were so full of colorful marine life! Hot chocolate after at Georgia Cafe next door topped off a great afternoon.

This is basically a teaching aquarium. The displays are informative, and the docents knowledgeable. It's new, it's clean, it's slick, and for the number of displays it's expensive. Two adults and two kids, $36. You MIGHT spend 30 minutes there, unless one of the kids is crazy about fish, in which case you might be there an hour.

On our recent trip to Vancouver Island we visited the Vancouver Aquarium before heading to the Island and when we were leaving the Island towards the ferry we heard about the Shaw Ocean Discovery Center in Sidney, so decided to stop in for a visit. At the Discovery Center we had more hands on time and learned more about the ocean creatures we had been seeing on our visit than we did at the Vancouver Aquarium. It is a smaller Aquarium, but the volunteers were outstanding and the ability to analyze sea creatures close up with microscopes or by hand was very educational and fun. Our three kids were fully engaged the entire time and left the aquarium raving about what they had learned. Well worth the visit. Vancouver Aquarium showed us the big picture mega fauna and the Discovery Center was awesome for the microfauna. Glad we visited both.
