Owner description: Explore Western Canada's largest collection of heritage locomotives and railcars. The West Railway Heritage Park experience starts with free parking, washrooms, ticketing/guest service and a Gift Shop. Your self-guided tour will take you back in time through vintage railcars dating to 1890, building from the early 20th century and artifacts exhibits but also steam and diesel locomotives from the mid-century era. In addition to our outdoor experiences, the newly build 21000sq-ft Roundhouse can provide opportunities for events, conferences and is the home of one of BC best heritage steam locomotive the 2860 ROYAL HUDSON. Also available is our most popular attraction: the MINI RAIL. Take a 20 mins ride on our 3 km long tracks around the site, the whole family will love it!! The Heritage Park is the perfect place to wonder around beautiful restored heritage pieces for individuals, family and groups of all sizes and ages
Useful Information: Activities for young children

The park has a sizable collection of railroad cars and engines - but the highlight is the old roundhouse, refurbished with a glass front. It contains the best of the collection, including an immense engine from the Canadian railways. The location is half way between Vancouver and Whistler, so this is a nice stop along the beautiful Sea to Sky Highway.

There is also a mini railway, which would be fun if you are traveling with kids.

The signs directing to the park are poor, so it's easy to miss. Once you get to Squamish, stop and ask directions from there. It's only about 2 more miles, but off the main highway.

I have lived in the area for 16 years and only recently discovered this museum. Last year with a one and two year old children we really enjoyed riding there mini railway. This year we purchased a family pass (which is an incredible value) and were blown away with how much the museum offers. Now we enjoy going on full size locomotives and ringing the bell, going inside heritage railway coaches, and looking at artifacts. As a volunteer driven museum, this place does an amazing job. Enjoy!!!

Even if you aren't a train buff, this place is a great detour to distract you. Lots to learn about the history of the railway in BC. Also they have an amazing new Roundhouse Building which you can rent for Weddings, parties etc.

I took my 10 year old son and husband to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park for something different to do on a Saturday. At first, they kind of went along with the idea, but after a very enjoyable couple of hours, I had a hard time dragging them away! The staff were very friendly and it was clear they had a passion for the history and the preservation of the trains in their care. The new roundhouse building was spectacular and, having travelled on the Royal Hudson many years ago before I become a resident of BC, it was great to stand beside the engine and see how beautifully it is being preserved. Being able to actually walk onto the trains (which were immaculate) was great fun and very informative and helped you understand how important trains were in the building and history of the West. My son loved the carriage with the train set built along the entire length of the carriage. We will defintely visit again - this is a wonderful family attraction in Squamish and definitely worth a stop if you are travelling between Vancouver and Whistler or a great way to spend an afternoon, rain or shine!
