Finally decided to give the Colander a shot, and see what all the hype was about. As other reviewers have stated, there is nothing fancy about this place. The seating is crowded, the atmosphere is loud (and family friendly) and obviously meant to be a place to share a meal with a large group of friends. I wouldn't recommend for a quiet night out, or a romantic evening. Our friendly waitress recommended the special for us first timers, while my wife opted for the gnocchi.
The sauce on the spaghetti was pretty tasty, but nothing special. I'd be very surprised if the noodles were made fresh daily, and tasted like any others out of a box. The "bagette" served with the special was a bun that could be found on the shelves of Safeway. The salad included with the special consisted of lettuce, dressing, and a few sparse vegetables. Just enough to fill you until dinner arrived.
Would I eat here again? Probably, if I wanted a large amount of food for a reasonable price. The special was just under $15 and includes enough food to easily feed 2 people. Drinks and desert were reasonably priced as well, which is a rarity these days, and a nice surprise.
Don't kid yourself though, the food is about as authentic Italian, as McDonalds serves an authentic hamburger.
