Marlene makes wonderful chicken vegetable soup. The chicken rools ups have become a comfort food for me. A long time customer. I prefer the Wooden Hog as a lunch spot.

We were passing thru Truro and our guide book listed this place. By chance we drove past it so we parked and went in for lunch. It doesn't look brilliant from outside and there was only one other customer but we needn't have worried. The soup and sandwiches were delicious and we were sorry we wouldn't be around to try the evening menu.

Why so quite when the food was very good?

We arrived at about 7.00pm on a Friday night to find we were the only people there. We wondered had we made a mistake. The place was reasonable looking but it does look dark inside when looking from outside…..its not…..I suspect the glass in the windows is tinted giving that impression.

We decided to stay and ordered up some drinks while looking over the menu. It appeared to fairly extensive and covered most tastes.
We decided to go for main courses and leave space for puddings later.
We had a look around the large display of paintings and drawings hung on the walls…we assumed by local artists….all for sale.

The main meal and also the puddings were really good. We had feared the worst as by the time we were leaving only 2 other customers had appeared.

The prices were ok as was the service.

Both the broiled and pan fried fish took longer to prepare than the time required to make and eat a bruschetta appetizer and finish a 16 ounce beer, however both fish dishes were quite good and worth the wait. The accompanying vegetables were simply and well cooked. The bruschetta was a North American variant of mostly bread and cheese but no basil and not much noticeable garlic or olive oil. Service was good and pleasant. I'd go back again and recommend it to a friend.
