We enjoyed a one night stay in the very clean and comfortable property. Hosts were friendly, warm and welcoming. Breakfast delicious and morning coffee excellent. I guess the only negative was that we were surprised when paying our bill, that a request for a Tip appeared on the credit card machine. In all our many years of staying in B&B's, we have never been faced with this before, and it sort of threw us for a loop. We felt a little pressured to then add on a Tip as our Host was beside us when we made the transaction. However, as far as the amenities, host and hostess:. breakfast:, cleanliness etc. we would have to say well above average.

Thank you for your review about your stay at our B&B. We are surprised that you felt pressured into leaving a tip. As you know our credit card machine is set up in our restaurant and therefore a tip option is included in the payment process. We always mention to our B&B guests that this can be by-passed and we definetely do not encourage our B&B guests to leave a tip.
Hopefully this will explain our situation and we are sorry that this might have given you a negative feeling about your stay with us.

We stayed only for 1 night and wished we stayed longer. Nelly and Maarten were excellent host, warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about the region. The breakfast was wonderful - great good, and relaxing. It felt more like home than at a B&B. This was our first night in Nova Scotia and it was a great start to our 10 day holiday. We now use Nelly and Maarten as the standard for excellent B&Bs. Will definitely stayed there again and will highly recommend to family and friends.

My husband and I spent 8 nights here and our stay was absolutely perfect! Maarten and Nelly are warm, welcoming, fun hosts who make you feel like family. In their guest book I wrote that this was "Home Away from Home" but since the couple who stayed there the same time as we did used that as the title of their review, I'm going to say it's Better Than Home! Why? Because the breakfasts were the most scrumptious gourmet creations! Nelly and Maarten make their own yogurt, goat cheese, and pastries. Everything is prepared from scratch with no additives and served with lots of morning cheer. Throughout our stay they made us feel like old friends they were so happy to have visiting. Our suite was quite lovely with a good size sitting area (couch, chair, coffee table) and queen size bed and bureau. The whole house was immaculate and impeccably decorated. We especially enjoyed our evening cold drink on the deck surrounded by potted flowers and shaded by a big apple tree. The house is situated about a mile outside downtown on the edge of beautiful green farmland and within minutes of the Tidal Bore and main highways. So you have the quiet and beauty of the country but easy access to grocery stores, gas, and main roads. My husband and I agree we dont know how anyone could find fault with Bakers Chest. Nelly and Maartan and their lovely home made our vacation in Nova Scotia truly memorable.

Room Tip: They are all lovely. Depends on what size bed you want since each room has a different size bed.

Host Nelly and Maarten & Decko, were a true delight. They made you feel comfortable and at home. We were with them (6) days, each mornings breakfast was a gourmet meal. The amenities were all you could ask for. Very pleasant rooms, clean and well kept. Would highly recommend Baker's Tearoom and Bed and Breakfast.

Room Tip: You would not be disappointed and we would definitely stay there again.

Maarten and Nelly were kind, laid-back, accommodating, and welcoming. What more could you ask for! The house is very tastefully decorated with antiques and luxurious touches (a working claw-footed tub!). They cooked a DELICIOUS breakfast meal - and vegan-ized it for me without any problem whatsoever.

Maarten stayed up late to welcome us after a long hard day(over 1100 Kms) on a motorcycle. Courteous reception & guiding weary travelers despite our mind numbing exhaustion. Wonderful hot breakfast & special baking made a perfect start during our stay on the 18th & 19th, then again a few days later on the 23rd. A beautifully appointed building with fantastic details, & wonderful grounds. They are fully capable of catering more to motorcycle travelers, & would do well with it. The spa & exercise room were perfect to help soak our weary bones, with plenty of room for our rain-soaked riding gear to dry out. An incredible place to stay, & feel like you are welcome in their home. Superb & relaxed old world style of hotelier in their lovely home. Top notch!

Room Tip: I don't think there is a bad room in this establishment. We would stay there again in a heartbea...

Maarten and Nellie are wonderful hosts and made us feel right at home. We stayed two nights (July 5th and then again on the 8th) and both times check-in and out was quick and easy.
Our first stay was in the Estey Suite with the King Bed. It has a beautiful view of the backyard and is very quiet because it is at the back of the house away from the road. The bed and pillows are VERY comfortable and I am very picky about my beds and pillows. Their website: http://www.bakerschest.ca/estey.html has very good pictures of the rooms. Maarten and Nellie do an excellent job of taking care of their guests and breakfast was wonderful.
Our 2nd night was in the "Mason and Hamlin" because the king was not available. It has two twin beds with very comfortable mattresses, BUT the pillows definitely need an upgrade. The room is smaller, but the bathroom has a very nice shower. This room faces the street, so it has a fair amount of road noise. All rooms have free standing air conditioning units which were a bit noisy but very necessary and helpful for the very warm days we had.
The Thomas and Karn rooms are on opposite sides of the house (all rooms are on the 2nd floor) and they both looked very nice, if you are fine with a Queen Size bed. ALL rooms are SUPER clean and the main floor has a wonderful sitting area.
I would strongly recommend staying at Baker's Chest in you are staying in the Truro area.
I would also recommend having a GPS to explore this city and make sure to choose Colchester County, Truro (our Garmin gps couldn't find the roads until we chose the correct county).

Room Tip: Estey Suite is definitely the best room (if you need a King bed).
