“A Good Place To Stay In Yarmouth, N.S.”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

We recently had a trip around the South Shore of N.S. and stayed at MacKinnon-Cann Inn in Yarmouth. It is an old home that was bought and restored by two gentlemen from the U.S. They did a marvelous job of making this property into an Inn and have restored other houses in the neighbourhood. The room we had was nicely decorated with upgrades, but yet, still held it's character. The bed was comfortable and the bedding was very good quality. ( not the usual white sheets you get at a motel or hotel. ) The bathroom had in floor heat which was comfy on the feet. Breakfast is provided and they are accomodating to ones needs, diet wise. They did not have cold cereal but it wouldn't surprise me if they change that. Neil, one of the owners, spent some time with us as we ate and was very informative about how this place came about. We don't normally stay at Inns or B&Bs but this was a pleasant experience and would not hesitate to go back if and when we are in Yarmouth in the future. They are equipped to host groups for a birthday or anniversary party in their dining room.

Elizabeth... thank you for your kind words. We try hard to make sure our guests have the best experience as possible. Nova Scotia has so many gems - and owners like us - it is all about 'hospitality'. Thank you again - and we hope to see you again. Warm Regards. Neil

This restaurant is one of the best surprises we have encounter. The house it self is an beautiful 19th century mansion which has been restored and designed in a very elegant way. The lamb on the menu is one of the best dishes we have had for a long time. The service is so friendly and personal, you feel like among friends.

Room Tip: The 1960 room.

We stayed here on a weekend getaway from Annapolis Royal. The Inn is a beautifully restored home, with all the amenities including electric heat in the tile floor bathroom. BUT, as of September 7, they have reopened their restaurant and chef Michael is amazing. My wife had the goat cheese endive salad and Digby scallops, cooked to perfection. I am not a vegetarian but the polenta with basil risotto and a red pepper sauce was to die for. The fixed price three course menu was topped off with a raspberry cheesecake. Even the tea was served in a pre-heated cup - what a special touch. Neil is a delightful attentive host, and we are already planning our next visit.

We spent a night in the 1900 Grand Victorian room at the MacKinnon-Cann Inn in August 2013. Neil was a very attentive host from the minute we walked in the front door. The house has been very well restored including beautiful gleaming hardwood and antique furniture everywhere. The rooms themselves are also thoughtfully decorated and furnished with even the bathroom fixtures matching the intended decade of history. Heated bathroom floors were a great touch. The house is a few blocks from the busier streets, so street noise was not an issue

Breakfast was very much "what can I make for you", not the fixed simple menu offered at other B&B's we've stayed at. Would recommend highly to any travellers staying in Yarmouth.

Take step into the past with all the modern amenities. Sparkling clean. Beautiful restored Inn. Each room is decorated for a specific period...love the opulence of the 1900s room, comfort of the 1940s, fun of the 1950's and excitement of the 1960s. Private baths for each room with heated floors and Jacuzzi tub. Neil is the most awesome and interesting host you'll ever find - treats you like a long lost friend. He and Michael freely share the history of the home and their restoration experiences with this property and 3 other large Victorians in the block they have restored. Breakfast is outstanding, made to order, and simply delicious. Centrally located and easy walking distance to the waterfront. When in Yarmouth, this is the place to stay. You'll love it!!!!!!!!

An absolutely elegant place to stay in a quaint town, with a most gracious host. Love the ambiance of the place with 1900's Victorian decor and immaculate furnishings. It is just a perfect romantic setting for a couple, as well as, a place to host a special event, and a great place for traveling business men and woman to stay. My husband and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary there and was pretty much pampered by the host, who got out his best champagne flutes for us and pampered us with a scrumptious breakfast the next morning. Thanks Neil.

Jessie

Room Tip: Love the 1900 Victorian Room. Very rich and plush.

Beautiful period rooms, very clean and welcoming. I have food and environmental sensitivities and our host came through for me with flying colors. We felt very welcomed and cared for yet had the privacy we needed to relax, unwind and explore. The Inn is right in the downtown core yet tucked away on a quiet street.
We would highly recommend staying here for both business and leisure.

Room Tip: 1910 room- afternoon sun. 1960 room morning sun. Lovely room with twin beds available.
