“Old-fashioned hospitality”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 9, 2013

We were a company of 13 dancers, performing in Yarmouth with an 11:30 am call. Mathew welcomed us at 11 am, made sure we had everything we needed, and sent us off to the theatre. When we returned, Mathew provided wine glasses and corkscrews for the cast party.

The next morning we were treated to a full and generous breakfast in the motel's pleasant dining room. Those of us who were not eating were greeted with a smile and a bottomless coffee cup.

While The Lakelawn isn't fancy, it is comfortable and Mathew's hospitality made us feel as though we were in a 5 star hotel.

We spent 11 days at the Lakelawn B&B Motel this past July and enjoyed our stay immensely. The facilities were clean and comfortable and Mathew and the rest of the staff did everything they could to make us feel welcome. Our dinner in the dining room was fabulous. This is very much a hidden gem!

We stayed one night at the Lake Lawn B & B Motel on a 3 week trip through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the US Northeast. We didn't have reservations but were lucky enough to stop at Lake Lawn and found a vacancy. We could not have had a more warm and inviting welcome. Matt and Val, the owners, were wonderful. They recommended a local restaurant and called to get us reservations. Their recommended restaurant was worth the recommendation. We had breakfast at Lake Lawn. WOW! The food was delicious and plentiful. If I lived in Yarmouth, Lake Lawn would be my favorite dining experience. Matt and Val cooked and served. They really go the extra mile for their guests.

Room Tip: The rooms all seemed to have equally good locations. We were able to park directly in front of our r...

First time visit to Lakelawn B&B and our first impression upon arrival was a beautiful setting. Upon check-in we met Mathew the owner, who was very friendly and helpful with our room selection. The room in the motel section was nicely decorated. We spent three nights on this visit and was very impressed with the breakfasts which were served with flare and assorted fresh fruits; each days breakfast was an adventure and Mathew's expertise in the kitchen unsurpassed. Thank you, Mathew, for friendly service and conversations, we look forward to a return visit.

We stayed here for two nights and would have stayed for more, had time allowed. Matthew was a most warm, helpful and considerate host, and chef extraordinaire! The breakfasts were as flavourful as they were most elegantly presented - a wonderful was to start the day. And, upon returning "home" after a day of sightseeing, we were always greeted with a "Welcome Home". The rooms were comfy and we wanted for nothing. The whole ambience was one of welcome and relaxation. Thanks, Matthew, for a wonderful stay and we will be back if we pass that way again. All the best!

There is nothing wrong with this place for a stay in this price range. Sometimes ratings on tripadvisor set expectations higher than they should be. For the price and being a dated Motel everything was fine. The room had no A/C and was *very* dated. Not to confuse with tastefully antique decorated B&B rooms we had before and after on our trip through Nova Scotia. But to be fair: all of our other stays where more expensive than this one. We didn't try the breakfast, so I can't talk about the food. If we would stay there again? Not sure about that.

We are a budget motel with the best location and grounds in Yarmouth NS. Our motel rooms are cottage style that are clean and comfortable. We provide plenty of services and we offer great value.
By looking at the average temperatures in Yarmouth one will soon see why most hotels and homes in this part of the world almost never need nor use air conditioning .We usually have moderate temperatures. We are on the ocean here and after sunset we get the most wonderful sea breeze that no air conditioner can match. This is what we are selling here.
We are 175 years old. We are in fact historic. We do not ever want to be fully renovated as modern or new. We try hard to replace the old with old when it breaks down, to keep the old charm and feeling of the place. We restored the buildings and kept the old feel.We buy few modern items and try to keep the place looking ageless and functional. Many refer to it as RETRO furniture. Some find it charming.
The rooms in the main house are the B and B rooms. They have the antique furniture and they are also more expensive and include a great breakfast. This offers our guests an option from saying in the motel.
Happy Travels

We arrived to find a friendly owner, who checked us in without any trouble. He gave us lots of advice about the area, including where to find the lighthouse, when the fog would lift (he was right!) and the shopping malls and restaurants. Lots of room to park, but you may have to walk up a hill and/or negotiate steps to reach your room. We were in room 20 and it had a very awkward dip/slope in the floor where a wall had clearly been removed at one time. We tripped over on it quite a few times before laying down a cushion to step over just to remind us that the trip hazzard was there. Although clean and comfortable it could do with a bit of a revamp.

Room Tip: If in room 20 mind the trip hazzard on the floor where 2 floor levels meet.
